There’s a serious concern that the new retrospective sin bin rule could be exploited by clubs, late in games.
Hypothetically speaking, it’s a tight contest with anything from 15-25 minutes remaining and an interchange forward is clipped taking a hit up. It’s close to the end of his final stint anyway…why not just fail him and enjoy a one man advantage that supersedes having the extra player on the pine?! The independent doctor looks at footage, but they don’t tell clubs they aren’t allow to fail a player’s HIA. I understand the timing needs to sync up but is not implausible that this could happen.
The NRL love spoiling the fan experience with unexpected twists…this new rule is just another example. Sit comfortable in the belief that everything is under control, before the rug is ripped out from under you, as a player is suddenly binned 15 minutes after the fact 😡
