Rest in Peace thread.

Loretta Swit, who won two Emmy Awards playing Major Margaret Houlihan, the demanding head nurse of a behind-the-lines surgical unit during the Korean War on the hit TV series MASH, has died. She was 87.
I still watch episodes of my favourite 'young ge' show every week.

Sad. Can't be too many left now.

Anyday, anytime you can still find an episode on TV somewhere. Amazing

I used to love watching MASH as a young kid, it was one of my mum's favourites so because we only had 3 channels we all had to watch and I quickly got to like it. I tried watching it a few months ago because I noticed it was on a TV channel showing old programmes but it was unwatchable because of the awful American laughter track whenever anyone spoke, we didn't have to put up with that when it was first shown
RIP Hotlips

RIP Brian Wilson of Beach Boys fame.

Brian Wilson, the legendary frontman and co-founder of the Beach Boys, has died at the age of 82, his family announced.

"We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away," his family said in a statement shared online.

"We are at a loss for words right now," they added.

"Please respect our privacy at this time as our family grieving. We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world."

Born in 1942 and raised in Hawthorne, California, Wilson formed a group along with his younger brothers Carl and Dennis, cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine.

They would go on to become one of the country's biggest rock bands, the Beach Boys.

One of the most commercially successful bands of all time, they have sold more than 100 million records globally, according to the group's website.

Music magazine Rolling Stone ranked them at 12 on its list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".

The musician was diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic in 1984, according to Forbes, when doctors found evidence that his brain damage was linked to his use of psychedelic drugs.

In February 2024 it was revealed he had dementia.

Off topic - apologies, but yeah we only had 2 channels growing up in regional Qld, Ch 7 and the ABC. Said it to my kids a few times and they just giggle and eyeroll, I can't begin to imagine how many "channels" are out there now!

I’m watching MASH now!

Two channels!

Wow….and I thought having 2,7,9, and 10 was bad. And ch 9 would cut out when a plane went over.

Just saw this.

Such an influential musician. I played the beach boys almost every day as a kid. There is a reason there a so few beach boy covers ( good ones) as they are untouched

At least the ABC was worth watching back in those days. Plenty of classic pommy programmes - two Ronnie’s, pot black, Blake’s 7, etc.

Saw them in concert twice. First time at the Sydney Sports’ Ground in March, 1978. All three Wilson brothers were in that lineup. Now all three are gone.

The last time was in Canberra nearly a decade ago. Mike Love and Bruce Johnston led the way. Al Jardine didn’t tour, but David Marks* did.

*A very early band member
