Refs on the take?

What are the avenues available to have the refs investigated? It's obvious they're making mistakes, but could those mistakes be intentional? Are they on the take?

Oops, gave an accidental offside as a penalty instead of a scrum in front of the sticks?

Oops, forward pass a metre from one touchies face, a mistake too??

I mean look how close they are!!

A dropped ball when attempting an offload called a strip, with the inevitable try from the resulting set of six? Oops?

I'm not even talking about the usual Melbourne constantly offside or laying on the tackled player thing. That's now just a given.

If Foran can be investigated and be mercilessly dragged through the mud, I think last night's game needs an investigation Nuralda style?

I don't believe they are on the take as such but do believe they are instructed from above, a couple of former refs have indicated this at times as well.

I also believe that if you don't follow the rules you get punished, look at Chechin this year.

Don’t think they are on the take but do think they operate on instructions.

Cheat sheets if you want to call them that.

I think we saw that on Saturday night when it looked like we’d run away with the game and BINGO in came the square ups to ensure the game was a close one.

It’s nothing more than WWE these days , preordained entertainment to suit the masses that make TV ratings what they are.

The Nrl has stuffed up the game so badly that referees are making horrible decisions with No accountability! ! Coaches are not allowed to criticise referees in fear of massive fines from God greenturd! What happened to manly and the titans illustrates what a farce it now is and driving people away from the game !!

Rothfield was quoted on Controversy Corner that he "would put a bomb under the Football Dept of the NRL and blow it up to start again" as the refs, touchies and bunker are a total joke driving people away from the game.

The other panelists could not believe the howlers in the Manly & Roosters game.

Half of the NRL's 16 teams having a gambling business as a major sponsor and the NRL has $60 mill funding from Sportsbet. I doubt these big betting companies are supporting the game out of benevolence, they'd want to be assured of some sort of return on their investment.......it's all probably ok though, I mean if you can't trust a bookie who can you trust.

In Australia we are very naive about corruption at all levels of politics, business and sport. There are people 'on the take' everywhere. Why, only last week a Liberal politician resigned because phone taps proved he was soliciting money from a Chinese developer in return for planning favours. In the building industry developers gain greater height permits because they pay bribes. Private certificers take 'incentives' to pass dodgy building work. . n and then we come to sport which is now fuelled by gambling.
We'd all like to believe our sport is clean but surely common sense will tell you that it can't be with the level of money changing hands every match. We know certain players have been guilty of accepting bribes, but smart 'influencers' know that the match officials are in a much more powerful position to change the result of a match than a player - even a group of players.
A referee is just one person you need to entice. With so many match-changing decisions being made by refs in RL these days there just has to be corruption.

. Turning a blind eye to a forward pass, giving illogical penalties . . . it's so simple to achieve and yet so often we put it down to human error.
It is not in the interests of any sports organisation to find corruption in their sport. They turn a blind eye unless someone really stuffs
Yet, there is no truer saying than "everyone has his/her price".

I figured out why the Broncos lost yesterday .............

Firstly it was Sunday afternoon not Thursday/Friday/Saturday night and they are unable to play a game under sunlight.

I'm surprised they didn't lodge (no pun intended) an official protest with Todd, sorry forgot that he's busy watching the World Cup final.

Well they're back to their usual Friday night game this week.

It just stinks. Can anyone name any other organisation/govt role that is totally unanswerable. Everyone in every walk of life is accountable to someone. There are govt inquiries into everything, even into themselves. No one is completely free to do whatever they like, except the nrl refs and the ref boss. No one is allowed to question them. Can anyone think of anyone else that is afforded that luxury. Not just in Aus, worldwide, everyone is answerable to someone for their actions

No sport will go to any lengths to investigate corruption. Look at cricket; the only time it arises is when a media outlet goes undercover. Why wouldn't the cricketing body undertake a similar sting? Answer: Because it will damage the integrity of the sport, reduce its appeal ie. sponsorship and revenue, and threaten the jobs of officials.
We all know how shocked we were to see that Smith, Warner and Bancroft were cheats. It wasn't just their actions it was a stab in the heart because of our belief it was only Asian nations who cheated and were corrupt.
How was the cheating found? By the media. Cricket Australia was 'dumbfounded'. Yeah, sure.

Agree completely. The more the gambling dollar has become a factor in rugby league, the less likely it is that the sport is clean. We all know pokies are rigged, right? If you’ve got an opportunity to tweak the payout percentage in your favour and keep the revenue rolling in, what organisation isn’t going to do that? And nobody is going to blow the whistle because they’re all making a motza from it, and presumably accepted it’s just the way things are done well before they were ever let in on full extent of the corruption.

Look not only at the officiating of matches and how that affects outcomes, but even things like the salary cap debacle we’re currently embroiled in - the governing body can literally influence which clubs can and can’t attract/retain players with stuff like this.

The merchandising dollar is another big factor in why you don’t see premierships won back to back (or more) these days as well; teams coming off a premiership win the year before won’t get quite the same leg-ups they got 12 months earlier - because people are more blasé about snapping up all the Premiers merchandise when they’ve still got everything relatively new and shiny from a year ago. Even better if it’s a team that hasn’t won one in yonks (or ever); the fans go nuts kitting out their wardrobe, car, kids’ bedrooms, pool room etc with the cookie-cutter ‘insert year and team colours’ merchandise. Then the players-switching-teams merry go round cranks up, and it’s someone else’s turn. A decade or so to get you really hanging for another one, and your team might be in with a chance again - depending on which geographic area really needs a premiership to keep the AFL/soccer/basketball/underwater hockey expansion at bay at the time, of course.

We’re getting closer to horse racing every year - both in the amount of influence gambling has on outcomes, and the sameness of every competitor, only differentiated by the variation of colours on the silks/jerseys (which are the same 3 or 4 designs on repeat).

There was a very damning 4 Corners report last Monday into the Aquanita scandal in Victorian horse racing and the way the "investigation" was run by Racing Victoria.

Some of the decisions taken were poles apart from a similar investigation into another trainer.

The Racing Victoria CEO's responses to questions were classic "nothing to see here" stuff.

It's all about protecting the brand.

It's worth a look if you have time.

I sent this tweet to Greenturd yesterday. I was polite and didn't use foul language, just asked a simple question. Not that I expect an answer of course.

"@Todd_Greenberg how on earth can the @NRL continue to justify the very poor standard of refereeing that is driving more and more fans away from the game?"

Like I said, I don't expect an answer. Greenturd and the NRL continue to tweet and tweet and tweet about how wonderful things are, even tweeting blatant referee/bunker mistakes and calling them great plays (e.g. Scott's forward pass and that Chooks try against the Tits). But very rarely, if ever, do they actually answer questions from fans. Its a propaganda machine that the Nazi's would have been proud to call their own.
