Could not have said it better myself.

That 1/10 for future is exactly right. We are looking at best at one premiership in the next 10 years, and it will likely be the 10th year it will take that long.

We were reasonable until rainbowgate. Then ****e.
We did have a lot of injuries and it seems, a playing group with different beliefs. Different beliefs/cultures is fine but they must be united in the ambition that the number one priority is a Manly premiership. There seemed to be some different priorities this year but hopefully the club and players can learn from the mistakes and move forward.
Go Manly ‘23!

Most times really , as soon as it got even harder they just folded!!

We were often gone after 15 minutes.

Weak as piss!!
And this is why we can't blame a jersey with rainbow ****ing stripes on it for "derailing" a season that was already plummeting downhill with failing brakes at furious speed. It was just another excuse, another challenge we couldn't rise to, another way to emphasise division instead of unity, another reason not to fight.

We lacked heart, belief and skill - pretty much everything a footy team needs.

Collectively we may have lacked heart, that comes from within the individual.
On that, guys like Garrick, Foz, DCE, Jake and Croker couldn't be faulted ( okay, sometimes of trying too hard).

Belief comes from looking at the guys next to you and seeing some that you know can rely on for heart and skill to always be in the game. Every team needs at least 3-4 of these in my opinion.
We saw with quite a few teams this year that missing just one of those parts can be detrimental - Storm weren't the same without Pap, Chooks without Keary, Souffs without Mitchell, Broncos without Carrigan etc

Skill is nothing without heart and belief.
The world is littered with hugely skillful players that just didn't cut it.
We even have one of own hugely skillful players that is having his heart and belief questioned.

It's the sum of the parts.
The coach has an input into all those things but again, can be hamstrung in that regard.

It's a simplistic view that it's any one thing but a fit and firing Turbo ticks all three boxes and that in turn adds more ticks.

I think we had a lot of games with 8 of our top 17 out and that's where the heart, belief and skill really gets tested.

I am with you all the way Rambo

Failures find an excuse

The Successful find a way

I dont get paid to make excuses at my work . I either find a way or I walk the highway to look for another job

Whilst other clubs are recruiting experienced NRL players right now and and getting stronger for 23. Manly are too busy fighting amongst themselves. It's hard to watch.
That has not stopped us from recruiting

We are recruiting feathered friend

We are recruiting experienced lawyers to sue each other

Failures can be our best friend as through them this is how we all learn. If there was only success there would not be much learning and likely only a developing hubris….

Failure can be a rookies best friend as they learn the ropes

But proven coaches that get paid 7 figure $ums to perform

No organisation pays high professionals to make excuses

They get paid to find solutions and meet expectations or exceed expectations

No mercy for mediocre performances at Manly

Live up to our Legendary clubs benchmark of excellence and excel
or exit the club

I get your point mate but at the end of the day you can only control what’s within your scope of influence and do your best from there. Smart businesses are better at measuring this and adapting quicker. When we lost the GF to roosters in our last GF appearance I would accept that Toovey had a reasonable excuse or two for this. He was still a winner in my mind not an arbitrary failure who may have used forward passes as an excuse. As the saying goes Sh!t happens and some times we need to cop it sweet and not beat ourselves up over it.. there are sometimes no win situations we can not control. The worst thing to do in these circumstances is to look for people to blame without taking on the big picture.

Accountability is the big picture feathered friend and not Excuses
Agree I just don’t see where accountability is not being applied. I say this with the exemption of Penn I guess he has none other than paying the bills..

Just could not stay in many matches [ and even when they were generally doing well to previously stay in a game ] , Even against some of the better credentialed sides , not through lack of commitment , more the endurance and lack of mobility and to adapt factor . Directly or mainly reflected in lacking a consistent defence requirement and just made worse or exacerbated when Jake became unavailable latter in the season . A few just inept performances for whatever reason also on a few occasions . Really have to find a way to get some defensive resolve and consistency [ for an entire game ] before any serious improvement for next season . . Some very unimaginative attacking structures did not help either even taking into account Turbo ';s absence

My point was that the coach is accountable for his teams success and failure

His team selections , his game plans , His season !

A coach either meets expectations , exceeds exaptation's or fails expectations and under achieves

We will agree to disagree other wise we will go around in circles :)

I am breaking down a few area's that add up to Success....so give me your honest ratings out of 10 for 2022 !! :wait:

Future possibilities

I'll go first and remember, there is no right or wrong - simply opinion....

COACHING - 5/10 - Again a tough gig with many key players out, but often looked flat and disinterested and feel more "youngsters" to add zest and "risk" improvement.....had a few good wins, but lacked cohesion and desire.

FITNESS - 3/10 - Seemed to really run out of gas and get run down late in games, combined with lacking killer instinct and not having leadership to go on with it in Winning positions.

FORWARDS - 4/10 - Aloiai and Olakautu had strong periods and Croker definitely improved, but overall lacked aggression, energy and pretty much looked slower than the opposition in most games.
Argably the softest middle in the NRL and let teams run rampant.
Jake solid as usual, nothing more - nothing less.

SPINE - 6/10 - NO Tom....again.....so always gunna be tough
Without Foran may have been a 4/10, he got the team playing direct and defensively was solid.
DCE had some great individual moments, but lacked the leadership/direction expected of a half of such experience.
Thought Garrick was absolutely Super on 1 leg playing plenty at fullback and maybe my favourite Manly player in 2022, raw guts and desire and if his team all had such a gutsy attitude, would have easily played finals footy.
Croker was strong, but offers little spring from dummy half and this is a MUST in todays game, though with Tom T back and Schu fit, could add punch to help cover this area....

BACKS - 5/10 - Again Garrick was great and I feel deserves more credit than he got this season, close to the most improved player in the NRL and his mistakes are all but gone.
Koula also great in a tough debut season, kid will shine big time, when we are Full strength.
Harps was ok, but still fell short of what is needed.
Other winger/s done ok, but fell below par also.

FUTURE POSSIBILIES - 7/10 - Weekes is a faster version of Nicho Hynes and could be up with the better utility players around, very versatile, quick and can create opportunities.
Fulton - was Super impressed with his energy more than anything and that is an area that needs help before the other issues can be resolved....I like this kid and expect to see more of him.
Latu Fainu - This kid has every attribute you would want in a footy player and does not play by a textbook making him extra dangerous, no doubt will be hearing more soon, very excited about what this kid will add to the side for many years.
Coaching: 4/10 - The coach refused to blood new players when it was obvious that we were not making the finals after the Parramatta home defeat. His reluctance to do so and his loyalty to players who just dont cut it made no sense at all!

Fitness: 3/10 - Too many times we ran out of juice and this had a lot to do with the crap game management in several games that just made our team have to do too much defending!

Spine: 6/10 - Only had Tom for 6 games so straight away behind the 8 ball, Garrick did a good job as a replacement, Foran was fantastic and our player of the year. DCE did really well until Origin ended and he was ordinary. Croker again outdid himself in a role that is not natural to him.

Forwards: 4/10 - Our big weakness this season! Too many injuries just hampered the running metres and post metres. We got monstered too often and wilted way too easily. The resilience is what concerned me the most. We need a specialist 9!!

Backs: When you consider that between Tommy, Saab and Garrick that season 2021 yielded 80 tries or so between them and this season combined they got about 35 showed how much we need them fit and well. It was a killer for us and by round 21 they were all gone for the season with injuries. Our centres are a massive weakness. We lack penetration out wide and our defence is flimsy. This is an area we need to address pronto.

The future: There are some very talented young players in our squad. Some of them really need to lift their games. Schuster for all his promise must deliver now! Koula is going to be a gun and he needs to work on his defence. Young Oka and Paseka could be enormous for us as long as they get some consistency in their games. We need to invest in the younger players like Weekes and Fulton and if hes good enough, young Latu Fainu has it all to be a huge success.

Management and Ownership: If you ever wanted to write a book about how NOT to run a club, look no further that our own club. What a disaster we are right now, We have an impasse between the owner and the first grade coach, neither prepared to back down or compromise and we have this stench coming out of the club while the dysfunction continues. We need some leadership and we need to come together again. Until we do this, the result will be the mediocrity we saw this year!
