say what?
I am listening to TOOL - Aenima - Forty Six & 2, Hooker with a Penis. The sort of music, Moses Suli should be listening to rip some heads off tonight.

I played some cricket with Steve Chiddy at Mosman. In fact, we won the comp that season. He was a medium-paced bowler who delivered off the 'wrong' foot, like Max Walker. From memory he was a fireman then had his own lawnmowing business on the North Shore. He became a RL ref but I remember him as being a linesman in First Grade rather than a ref. I can't see why he'd be biased against Manly having come from the north side of the bridge, although he may have been as Bears supporter...
If North’s supporter we are good as done

The teams on both sides have a lot of changes to the last match on July 8th.

Turbo wasn't in the last game.
Manly ins:Manly outs:

PapaliiSoliola* (Updated)
Nicoll-KlokstadHarawira-Naera

Pretty different teams to the last outing.

Manly are Def stronger:
  • DCE in the halves alone vs Walker.
  • Jake coming back
  • Funa at FB leaves Garrick/Saab in normal wing positions rather than a complete backline re-design (better D than Cpt Falcon Suli last time around)
  • Suli back to his cntr position where he has always looked best
  • Bench looks a lot better

Canberra are arguably stronger:
  • Papali'i back in front row
  • Wighton back in halves
  • Tapine starting (was beast-mode last game)
  • Captain Whitehead returns
  • Rapana has been good at the back

We lost the last game on the back of:
  • Poor ball control - especially 1st half. Raiders completed at 90% all game, had almost 60% of ball
  • 8 forced drop outs to 0
  • 382/288 tackles made Manly/Canberra. They gassed us.
  • 6 penalties to 1 to the Raiders. Ref gassed us too.
  • 14 errors to 7. Manly had massive case of the dropsies
  • Poor ruck defence let in 2 very soft tries, which Jake will likely shut down
  • Poor on-line defence let in 2 very soft tries, which Jake will likely shut down too

We were pretty terrible, and the Raiders by contrast played a very controlled, safe style of play that turned the screws on our Def and had us eventually playing one-out just to complete sets. Uncharacteristic performance highlighted by our dearth of playmakers out (Turbo/Jurbo/Schuster/DCE)

Other points:
  • Starling is a huge out for Canberra, he was lethal against us last time
  • Tapine was massive off the bench - he is starting the game this time so won't be the impact player of last time coming on to maul a gassed Def
  • CHN is a big out, he was also a massive in gaining them go-fwd with the fastest play-the-ball speed avg on the field (lightning fast 2.5secs - Sipley was quicker but his stint on the field was short) and 29 tackles
  • Lawton played the full 80 (he's back on the bench) and it blunted his impact, and had him missing the most tackles in the side - opposite situation to Tapine
  • Walker playing half only had 4 kicks in play, gaining >100m. His distribution to the backline was inferior to DCE
  • Foran was our field-position kicker and DCE is just a superior field-position kicker (most of the time..)
  • Croker being out is their main Goal Kicker gone too

I think the team has started to honestly believe they can win the comp over the last two weeks. Before, they were positive about making the eight, but probably doubted whether they could take it all the way.

Raiders will throw everything at us; however, I am confident we will get home in a tough one.

The benefits of winning out-weigh the cons of losing on balance.

If we beat a team like the Raiders now, when they are desperate for a win to keep their season alive, and without the Turbo-crutch, it could be crucial.

Whilst others might say 'yeah but the opposite applies - we lose without him and it will kill us' - I disagree that losing here will have as big a detriment to the team as winning without Turbo will have benefit.

This is the hardest match we have left all year looking at the table - Cowboys/Dogs could well be the bottom 2 for the season (Broncos don't look half bad of late!) - If we are going to rest Turbo ANY week and not have a win dulled by the quality of opposition, this is it.

I hope we will win tonight, and win well. And when we do, it will give the team that top-4 lift and the confidence to win week-1 and earn that week off. After last night, I don't think Melb week 1 is the sure-thing many may think.

We need a win without Tom. I fear if we don't then we will always struggle without him, even more than we need to. A win will boost their confidence.

I think we get them by 20
Hows that looking @QueefRichards don't let me down
