Pretty sure that Manly played Souths last season just after that big win against the Eels so hope that any sense of complacency does not repeat itself similar to then . Souths out muscled Manly in the forwards last time and then out flanked Manly "s right edge on a regular basis . Hopefully that can be addressed this Saturday . Manly seem more capable of putting together two half 's of competitive footy at the present time and playing to their strengths on the back of some determined D . Reasonably confident they can continue some good form and give a good showing . Certainly hoping for a dry track though .

I wonder if he was given permission to be involved with football games on his Home Detention schedule. They are quite strict on times out. No socialising at the local club after. No quicky at the casino. Even a casual tryst will have to be a home event.

Shut down Cook and reynolds and your a long way there...easier said than done !!
Murray is a Machine and Sam will always compete and make impact.
Burns out takes some danger from the left edge, but if Reynolds is not under the pump on the kick....will boot us into trouble.
Early prediction - Manly to ambush early and hold on for 2 in a row....

You will probably find he is not on home detention but can't leave the radius of a certain area for e.g. The CBD.

Would you play Paseka over Gosie if he's good to go?
Gosie only played 14mins the other day...

I would usually pick Paseka over Gosie, as still a youngster who I feel will turn into a great impact.
In this particular game I would leave Gosie, who will have plenty to prove against his old club and with the explosive Cook, Gosie has a bit more athletic ability to cope with the Souths main threat - speed around the ruck....Paseka will prove a great addition, but would not rush him into this 1.

I think probably because it would be almost mandatory attire for souffs fans, they probably cut him some slack for publicly wearing it with such pride

Souths look like a team that is ready for a loss to me - very tired in that 2nd half against the Titans yesterday. I think we are a chance if we get off too a good start and roll home with the crowd kicking us home.

You make a good point.

I think DESpicable will pick the same 17. However, Souffs have a big pack now that the third Burgess boy is back from suspension.
Perhaps we match them with bulk, and select Tent and Lance Boyle (provided he played well in reserve grade), Duck and Fainu as the four reserves.
This would relegate Sippers, who had a good match on Saturday, and Jetski who didn't get much of an opportunity.
Just surmising . . .

I think the biggest takeaway from yesterday (apart from injection of Turbo) was the defensive effort in the 3rd quarter of the game, where we repelled them set after set.
More of that resolve next week and were a chance.

Reynolds and Walker will ask more questions of the Manly defence than Green and Keighran did though. If we can hold them off it will show that we have most definitely improved our defence.

You know, in that period on Saturday I did find myself wondering if it would have made any difference if Shaun Johnson was there probing, scheming, looking for gaps and putting grubbers into the in-goal or good bombs up for the wingers. I'd like to think it wouldn't have made much difference, but it did make me wonder. That is the sort of thing that Reynolds and Walker will throw at us on Saturday at Brookvale.

If we can win on Saturday, or even if we do lose its only a close thing, after that come three winnable games against Newcastle (away), St Merge (away in Wollongong) and home to Canberra. Even if we only win two of the next four, we might end up being in a lot better position after 7 rounds than a lot of the doubters thought we would be. I mean, how many had Manly at 0-7 or 0-8 to start the season?

And its good to see that Bennett actually has a sensible head on his shoulders when it comes to the surface of the ground. Back when he was a Qld state winger in the late 60s and early 70s he would have played on some absolute cow paddocks, including grounds where there were cricket pitches in the middle (e.g. the SCG) which turned into a bog when it rained.
