I came away from last night's game feeling pretty chipper. We came back at them twice at the end of each half ... so the boys were putting in till the end.
The interesting player for mine is Winterstein. I thought he was OK last week against Souths, this week he was troubling the line and with his height was able to get some offloads away. I haven't seen much of him in D - would like to know what the other guys at the game thought.
Won't keep pumping Green's tyres, then again, it's a breath of fresh air seeing someone out there giving us some direction - no doubt DCE will cherish the freedom he'll get from not being the focus of all the attack. Interesting to see Green cutting across the ruck a number of times so both he and DCE were playing on the same side allowing DCE to get out wider ... you can see that in Walkers try at the end.
Tom - 20 years old - just phenomenal in attack - give him just the slightest hint of a gap and he squeezes through. The selfish side of me hopes he doesn't get a starting spot in SOO ... I'm not sure if he's ready for the extra workload ... but I think by the time it comes around he'll be irresistable. Also have to put Latrelle Mitchell in this class too.
Api was his usual dynamic best .... running hard and strong defensively.... still not sure if he's the best option and I base that purely on consistency of service to the halves. Will start feeling the heat from the competition if he doesn't bounce out of the blocks in the early game. (Look at the pass from Cullen at dummy half to Green in the Walker try in the highlights).
It's only a trial ... however with the amount of change we've undergone the team is heading in the right direction. We're still a work in progress so toppling the Eels in Round 1 will be a big ask at this stage. Still feel vulnerable defensively especially on the edges - not quite the wall yet, more of a hedge or maybe lattice. Just need some more time playing together.
P.S. Sorry for the clique overload ... just taking it one post at a time.
