it is a tough one. Steppa really impressed me on the wing last year. But Roberston was also very solid. In all honesty my backline would be

2 - Robertson/Steppa
3 - Bell
4 - Hicks
5 - Robertson/Steppa
Hicks is a much better centre than he is a winger and both robertson and steppa are capabale wingers.

i think that would give us a very solid defensive and attacking backline

Stephenson - He has size, pace, work ethic and can catch a high ball.
Robertson is very poor under the high ball apparently.

That's an awesome backlime Dan, but remember Haslers aversion to change...

Unfortunately, Matai will be in the centres. I re-watched the Parra final today, and Matai was just horrible...nothing else can be said of it.

I watched that game as well on Fox, he wasn't the lone ranger. I have never seen so many players drop off tackles and throw a pass at the toes of their teammate in one game in my life

We are sick puppies (me too) when we get our kicks watching that game! Brett had his worst performance of the season as well. After that we can only look forward.

I thought Robertson was very solid in the trial so it is good having options.

Maybe with a better groin Steppa should be in the Centres with Robertson on the wing.

I like Robertsons positional play and defence (though his partnership with Matai was a worry) I am not sure about his ability under the high ball either. He did very well to score a good try by beating a number of men in the Gosford trial.

Matai hasn't convinced me - in defence and I have rarely seen him position his outside man to get a better position with the pill. Steppa seemed to struggle laterally in the centres but maybe this was related to his groin etc

You forgot to add that being an ex-winger in b grade league 20 years ago you would know.

(sorry I couldn't help myself ;) ) :)

It might be that Fonz is talking it up for someone he knows but that aside you cant help but come to the conclusion that its Steppa that should be selected ahead of Robbo.

Steppa had a very impressive time on the wing after his move from centre. Hes the incumbent & has done nothing wrong in his lead up to Rnd 1, in fact hes done it all right. Sure Robbo has impressed but he wasnt in this side last year and cant be seen as having done more than Steppa.

Its really no contest Steppa for the Vice Presidency. Jatz for PM.

I would have to agree with daniel.

Any other combination and you are putting specialist centres on the wing. Stephen bell will be much more effective working with hicks. I think the two will compliment each other nicley.

robinson has not been tested under the high ball yet at manly, at canberra he was known to be a bit suspect. For me he is a bit like donald, tonnes of pace, but cant ge tthe high ball and defence isnt great.

Steppa has close to as much pace now and defence and high ball is good. Give himi the nod. Robbo for matai with hicks to centre might be a go until alberts get back.

Steppa....look at whats happened to our last raiders recruit...Robertson could end up playing in the second row for 250,000 if he plays his cards right!

If you had been a norths supporter you would have been accustomed to seeing that type of play most weeks. Especially around semi final time.

However it is very unusual to see a team in the maroon and white play like that. Just goes to show how far the mighty have fallen. It will be a long road back.
