Reserve Grader
Let me start by saying I love watching this guy play and when he’s on, he’s a damaging front rower with enormous influence on the game.

But he still seems to be in and out of games. The odd week he’ll have a stormer and run for 200+ metres, then he’ll go missing the week after. Or he’ll have one good stint on the field and a lacklustre second stint.

It was reported that he copped a spray from Dessie at halftime in the Penrith game and came out firing in the second half. Then Tom had a go at him against Parra.

Can Des turn him into a consistent first grader or will he be a whole lot of lost potential?

Yes. He will be top 3 in the next 2 years without question.

We were out there yesterday and I thought he did ok. Not the standout amongst our forwards but did his job well. Hate to see this guy if he ever gets angry but plays well enough without that. Might be a blessing in disguise given the new rules.

The day belonged to Marty, Keppie and Sips. Not sure what to say about Jake...the guy is a just a raging machine every week so almost a 9/10 consistently. Haumole.. just getting better and better with each game he plays. I thought he got hurt a few times there but kept on going. Schuster just a special talent ...nothing else to say there. So given all that.... no way Taniela gets the chocolates on the day.

Certainly copped spray from Tommy when he was slow to cover a gap there towards the end. He wont be doing that again too soon!!

He has come a long way in 12 months and will be a top level prop. He does come in and out in games and not closing that gap up was a bit lazy but i can't have a go at anyone yesterday. Our forwards aimed up all game and he might have just been gassed and literally couldn't cover the ground.

But what i do like is the high standard Tom is holding for himself and the rest of the team. It will benefit players like Paseka etc as that's the sort of accountablility the top sides hold everyone to and why they are at the top of the comp.

The pace of the game was a little bit above him yesterday. Even before he spilled that pass it was obvious he was gassed. As more injuries pile up Des is leaving players out there longer and longer due to the lack of specialist replacements on the bench.

Ailoi was playing big minutes and is being missed in the rotation

big man , faster game, longer minutes , less replacements

Equals==strong learning curve that will improve his match fitness and mental conditioning which should benefit us going forward, his a good physical specimen and appears very robust for a 23 yo prop, pretty sure there‘s still some quality upside to come.
Ailoi was (is) a big loss, the boys have done an awesome job in his absence and will appreciate his return when it happens, in the mean time they have to steel themselves to bring their game week in, week out and that is the challenge, keep up the good work lads, we are all looking forward to you dominating the knights pack and consolidating our attack on this comp.

I hope he takes it as a learning curve. Some players who cop it from team mates and coaches can have a negative impact. They can start to think **** you! Its never nice to have someone you like and respect yell at you. I hope Turbo and Des pulled Paseka aside and said no hard feelings but you need to work on a few things. Its all good to have a blow up but it needs to go beyond that. Hopefully Paseka cops it on the chin and aims up next week. He has been extremely impressive this year but there is just a moment here and there that let's him down. If he can work on these little things he could be pushing for origin in the next couple years!

Definitely, he like many of the big men are adjusting to the frantic speed of the game each week.

Was our best player in the first five rounds of the season, Tent looks like he needs the bye.

Keep in mind this bloke is still very young for a front rower and has gone to another level or 2 in 2021.
He has very solid defence and puts in a shot now and then, he could add more aggression, but I think this has even improved and he is starting to realise he is a Monster and can win almost every collision....
Will be an essential part of Manly success in coming years and has no BS in him, another young man of great character who represents the Manly culture with pride.

NRL Finals 2021: Manly reveal video highlights package persuaded club to sign Taniela Paseka

WATCH: Manly reveal the video highlights package which persuaded them to sign Taniela Paseka - the 120kg and 197 cm colossus set to wreak havoc on Friday night.

It took just three minutes and 50 seconds for Manly recruitment manager Scott Fulton to realise he had to sign giant prop Taniela Paseka.
Fulton has revealed the YouTube footage that was the key to his club securing the 120kg Paseka from Wests Tigers after the 2016 season.
Searching for some size and mobility, Fulton contacted Paseka’s manager Craig Baker and asked if he had any forwards that fit the description.

Paseka is quite a handful for opposition defences.

Paseka is quite a handful for opposition defences.

Baker had just the man and sent Fulton a highlights video of a teenager destroying opponents – in attack and defence - in the NRL under 20s competition and for NSW under 20s.
Fulton watched the video – which ran for 230 seconds – and rang Baker immediately.
“We’ll take him,” Fulton told Baker.
Paseka, 23, ended up leaving Wests Tigers and will be a key man in Manly’s preliminary final against Souths on Friday night.

“I only saw Taniela play maybe once before I rang Craig. I asked him about some players and then brought up Taniela. He sent through the highlights of Taniela. I watched it and straight away rang Craig back and said: ‘We’ll take him’,” Fulton said.
“You could see his sheer size on that video, power, pace, defence, everything really. And you could see he was going to get better and better as he matured.
“He was 19 when we signed him and he then played under 20s for us before going into first grade the following year. I think we signed him on a junior development contract.
“He has had a few injuries but all-in-all, he is a potential representative player, without a doubt.

“With Sean Keppie, Josh Aloaia, Marty (Taupau), along with Dylan Walker, it’s a pretty good rotation Des (Hasler) has at his disposal.
“Taniela is only 23. He’s been around a while but is still young. Good judges generally don’t think front-rowers get going until their mid to late 20s so there’s a lot of upside to him.”
Baker backed up Fulton’s recollection of the signing coup.
“Scott rang me back (after watching the video) and said: ‘We want him’,” Baker said. “We had got Taniela a release and were shopping him around when the conversation happened with Scott.
“Taniela has always been the biggest player on the field. I don’t think there’s been a time when he hasn’t been. That’s obviously been his weapon.
“Over the last couple years, Des has put a different confidence into him and he’s now starting to play some of his best footy.
Paseka built a big reputation at Wests Tigers.

“Des is also encouraging him to offload. There were a few different things he needed to look at as he gets to the defensive line, rather than just put the ball under his arm and run straight.
“Obviously opposition sides were putting a massive amount of numbers on him to bring him down easily. But now he is starting to vary his game. He has these things in his arsenal and he’s starting to use them.
“You can’t throw multiple bodies at someone if there’s a chance they’re going to offload. You commit too many defenders and then there’s issues. It’s all starting to click for Taniela.”
Like all Hasler-coached sides, Manly players are cautious and refuse to look any further than their next game.
But daring to dream for a second, Paseka said: “Imagine if we won it? It would be cool to watch.”

Manly Sea Eagles recruitment manager Scott Fulton has claimed that a four-minute highlights package on content sharing site YouTube was all the evidence he needed to sign speedster Taniela Paseka.

Thanks to our Great recruitment manager Scott Fulton our lower grades are loaded with up and coming young guns and our future looks bright .

Scott Fulton is doing his Legendary Father and our Legendary club proud

“Speedster”? They probably have him confused with Saab 😆
Paseka is starting to live up to his promise. He needs more game time and responsibility now.
