Parramatta stand down star halfback Kieran Foran

All right, some people mightn't like this comment but I'm starting to get pretty annoyed at the media and public lauding Foran in this situation. He is suffering from stress and it sounds like he's done something silly and put his health in further danger, ending up with a stint in hospital. How does this make him everybody's hero?

Can you expand on that, HM?
I was just commenting on the post of his hospital admission. Also KF had a post on his instagram re Liam's birthday earlier this week.
His DO sounds like a classic misadventure of drinking and taking a prescribed drug. @

I'm not sure why the Media are painting him as a fragile, self harming individual. It would be embarrassing to anyone 😎

Wonder if he'll turn out for the Kiwi Test ? He sounds keen to play footy 🙄

Channel 9 just had a news ad saying how Kieran's plight inspired his team mates to victory last night.
Vomit

It's the new way to get yourself out of situations now.
Play the mental illness card and your left alone by the media and not scrutinised. Also gets you sympathy and people using the 'all that matters now is his health' line as the go to deflection for anyone who questions the circumstances.

Commercial radio, TV and newsprint services have for a long time forgotten that their purview is to report the news. More and more they are now creating it. Its an utter disgrace that these media are allowed to consistently spin doctor news items to suit their interests. Their perversion of the facts, especially Channel 9 and the Telegraph make me wonder how they can maintain the title NEWS (paper, report etc) without bringing more cases of libel against them. Its the old Hitler claim that if you tell a lie often enough, it becomes the truth in the eyes of the public.

I think that was Goebbels.

Goebbels said a lot of such things but it was Hitler I paraphrased and the quote actually reads 'If you tell a big enough lie and you tell it frequently enough, it will be believed.' Its actually a quote from Mein Kampf written in 1925.

I've been in the media, and media-related industries, for 45 years and there are now, on average, four PR people to every journalist. It's spin-city, baby.
Most journos no longer know how to investigate - nor have the time to do so - so they just relay what they are spun, or rely on rumours or Facebook posts.
I was taught never to offer an opinion; just reports the facts - and get both sides. Now the majority of 'news' pages are filled by columnists giving their opinion.

The family rumour is partly true and the former teammate involved did not play tonight, this is very sad. I think you can put 2 and 2 together, a close friend right up until the Manly vs Parra game 2 weeks ago.
I think most of us have heard the former teammate rumour. I have no reason to believe it is anything but a rumour though.

Well said The Who. I find the ABC and SBS are far more reliable, but if you want to get a good balance of opinions, many from well qualified individuals, the forum 'The Conversation', leaves news centres for dead. At least you get a broad set of opinions from all sides, not just the one side of Channel 9 and Telegraph

I would not believe it either until I heard it today from a close friend of someone within the club that has been spot on before, and he is not known for going off rumours. You can check my record, he also advised of the signing of Joe Kelly and Wayne Cousins before it was released to the media.
Very sad.
I will hope for everyone's sake it turns out to be just a rumour.

I thought it was George Costanza that said that.
