Other Games [Round 1, 2022]

They've gone the way of the scrum... an anachronism. Just get rid of them and save some wasted cash.

Don't get me started on scrums. Its enough to make this old front rower cry.

I honestly can not remember the last time in the NRL that a #9 actually packed into a scrum at hooker. In attacking scrums they are usually at lock as the most adept at picking up the ball from the ground. For defensive scrums they are somewhere in the back row or out bolstering the defence on the weaker side of their teams line.

Scrums are the one thing union do better than us.

As an old school hooker that wore #12 on his back I empathise brother.

Are you sure you want to watch 5 mins of union scrums packing down, repack, repack, penalty, waste of time, that's what turns me off the game, well, one of the things

That is dating it. Pre-1989.

You know what I wouldn't mind seeing in Heritage Round?? Our forwards running out with the old number system.
I stopped playing around 14 or 15 years of age. That was around early-mid 80s 😉

Love the idea of a heritage round with the old numbering system. Very cool touch.

Cody looking a bit lost without his mate Reynolds, and Cook has looked a bit off too. Also struggling without Latrell.

As predicted. Mitchell will give them more from fullback, but they will miss Reynolds more than they realise. He was the one who ran things out there for Souths that allowed Walker and Latrell to do what they do. Without him.....

And they do heritage jumpers, why not the old numbers too??

Did you know we were the last team to win a Grand Final with the starting lock playing in the #8 jumper? Owen Cunningham in 1996.

I have an old friend who is involved with the Doncaster Dragons (poor bugger, not only is he a Pom, but he's a Chooks fan :rofl:). I'll pick his brain. He's usually good at this trivia stuff.
I was a Blackpool Borough fan, as I lived there til I was 20, now extinct, used to get crowds of 500

FFS! Can the NRL tell us whether they are going to enforce the play-the-ball rule or not. It's just random application that changes across games, refs and weeks.
The ridiculousness of this call was on full display just before halftime.
Broncs got pinged for an incorrect play the ball so handover to Souths and guess what?
The very next play the ball (to start the set they’d just been given) the Souths player did the same thing and so did the next player, l reckon there was three in that next set that could have been pulled up.
How/why do they seem to rule on some but not others? If it’s that black and white why do they miss so many?
Why does something that is best described as lazy have such a huge consequence?

That more than I ever saw at a South Australian Rugby League game lol

I really shouldn't laugh. It would be great to get more people to local games here.

Yeah, I struggle to understand it. Back in the day we did actually have to play the ball with the foot and it was pulled up if you didn't. It wasn't hard to police and players knew it would be so everybody played the ball correctly. It's just plain stupidity to let the desire for faster play erode such a basic skill.

You don't actually have to touch the ball with your foot, only motion to do it, the penalties are for just rolling the ball back and stepping over it
