MANLY legend Geoff Toovey has called out the Sea Eagles and current coach Trent Barrett for a supposed “agenda” pushing their exile of young playmaker Jackson Hastings.
Hastings has been dumped from the NRL side and won’t be considered for first-grade selection again, after reports emerged of a rift between he and captain Daly Cherry-Evans and possibly other players.

Cherry-Evans was fined $10,000 last week for an altercation with Hastings at a team hotel earlier in the year.
But Toovey — who coached Manly but never coached Hastings — has made a stunning claim by suggesting the Sea Eagles have pushed Hastings to the outer for a much more sinister reason.

Toovey says Manly is trying to force the young playmaker out of the club in order to relieve salary cap pressure.

“Is there another agenda behind the scenes? It looks that way,” Toovey told Channel Nine on Sunday.

“They’re under immense pressure with the salary cap dramas and financial dramas.

“It (looks like) he’s been led out of the club or let go by the club so they can save some money.”

Toovey doesn’t buy the line from coach Barrett that he exiled Hastings because other players did not get along with him.

Senior players have reportedly thrown their support behind Hastings, while Addin Fonua-Blake and Brad Parker said publicly they had no issues playing alongside him.

“No-one likes everyone at work. You have to respect them but you don’t have to get on with them,” Toovey said

“From time to time there is a brouhaha or a punch up or an argument but you’ve got to kiss and make up and get on with things.”

I think there is more to it . Why wouldn't you push Brown , uate , etc out rather then a young star. Hastings and Dce have said " its over and behind us, **** happened but its gone ". Barrett will fall on his sword and pick Jackson Hastings again very shortly. He'll have no choice.

He'll look like a prize goose with no authority if he does though.
That will be a tough pill to swallow.

Barrett could fix this problem in an instant.

Select Hastings at 5/8 for Friday’s game.

Bury the hatchet and gain some credibility in the media at the same time.

But we ALL know he won’t.

And as a result you don’t have to guess what Fridays result will be with EVERYTHING going exactly the same way as the last 3 weeks.

It’s sticking out like the most gigantic set of dogs balls ever!!

If he continues to select 'cant pass, cant kick, cant tackle' Croker over Hastings then he's not going to be picking any sides come later in the year.

He needs to swallow his pride and realise the team he is running onto the field purely to keep a bloke in second grade is going to end up getting him sacked.

I can guarantee that if any other coach walked in to Barrett's position right now, Hastings would be playing halves on Friday night.

Toovey shouldn’t feed ammunition to these clowns he as far as I know isn’t connect to the club keep the answers short and sweet.

We might be under salary cap pressure right now but surely that has eased with the release of Lussick.

Next year, we won't have Poo or Uate and won't be paying the Walking Forehead any more.

There's no need to push Hastings out the door to free up money.
For mine, he's shown enough to be given a crack at the 6.

I still don’t understand why we have to pay someone who has retired.if this money is still counted against the cap the get him back to play Reggie’s and if he doesn’t turn up fine him and keep fining him till he turn up
