One ref again to save millions?

So.... now they are going to strike??

Whiny gits the lot of them. Poor sutton cartel.

Referees have flagged the prospect of strike action over the decision to revert to one referee as their union prepares to lodge a dispute notice with the Fair Work Commission today.

As first revealed by The Sun-Herald, the match officials and their union, the Professional Rugby League Match Officials Incorporated (PRLMO), is considering the prospect of industrial action over the NRL’s planned changes to officiating protocols. The PRLMO believes the lack of consultation constitutes a breach of the enterprise bargaining agreement they recently signed with head office.

edit: Does anyone know if they are taking pay cuts like the players / clubs / everyone else?

Just goes to show how much smarter the referees have become. RL started off with a no tackle rule because referees couldn't count. After years of practice they got good enough to count to 4, moving forward and years later achieved what we see today being 6. Some even achieved 7 but got severely bagged for that. Six seems to be their limit though, once they get to this they have to start from 1 again.
Just wish they would stop stuffing around with rules

What a bunch of whiny precious darlings.

They don’t whine when only one of them has to ref an international.

They get paid leave on the odd occasions they actually are blamed for stuffing up

They earn a decent wedge and only have to work half the year

Oh boo hoo, my heart bleeds

This will only fuel the referees stance against one ref.

I hope the restart is not derailed by them striking.

Imagine that after all the hoops that have been jumped through to get a restart, it is thwarted by the most overpaid, inept or corrupt facet of the game.

I'm just hoping everyone just sorts their crap out and away we go. I get a bit tired of all the drama when it continues every single day.

Just want some footy.

If the refs strike what do they hope to gain. Presumably the season would not go ahead, that happens then all the refs would be out of a job anyway. Not much of a win from my perspective

What if we find out refs aren't necessary ? ... do we need them on the field ? ... surely with the technology we have now ... a bloke in the bunker with a good sound system could control the game ... stop when you hear the horn ... listen to the ruling or read it on the big screen ... restart play .... same for touchies .. don't need them ... they should all go the way of quartered oranges ..

PV will prove to be more of a Turd than the previous one.

Everyone is all getting loved up on here but he has already demonstrated he is a complete megalomaniac. He has completely taken over, sacked his only possible power sharing threat, ignored expert advice on the game and dictating what players have to inject into their bodies.

Sure he is picking things which seemingly have the fans on side, but that's the path to ultimate power. Win the love of the morons first and then beome untouchable. (commonly known as Hitlerism)

The NRL is doomed if it is always going to be run as a dictatorship.
Disagree.
This guy is a true leader. His decisions are firm and he stands up to idiots, such as coaches and referees.
I'm thrilled at the changes he has made so far.
You claim he is a dictator, well that's what the NRL needs at the moment - not fence-sitters and committees who cause delays by political posturing.

Peter V'Landys talking suburban grounds May 9, 2018...

While V’landys is a supporter of plans to upgrade Sydney’s major stadiums he is also a firm believer of the tribalism and atmosphere generated at suburban grounds WIN Stadium, Brookvale Oval, Leichhardt, Belmore Sports Ground, Shark Park, Campbelltown, Kogarah and Penrith.

“Tribal followings come from being active attendees at games and having families in Sydney attending suburban grounds is imperative to the future popularity of the game,”
V’landys told the Sunday Telegraph last week.

FMD. Quartered oranges are gone?

I saw four of them on my daughter's plate just last week. So sad. You never know what's around the corner.

Just be happy guys and rejuice in what you have.

I think they are approaching this issue from the wrong direction. Rather than fewer referees there should be many more. Players are expensive while referees are cheap. I’d like to see Rugby League progress down the path pioneered by union where adjudication has become the heart of the game. I don’t want to see a point scored unless it’s from a penalty try or a penalty goal.

I envisage a game with eight or ten players on each side. At least two of which would be specialist goal kickers. Adjudicating the game would be around a dozen on-field referees and as many lines people. In addition there would be three separate and independent video refereeing panels.

we would obviously need a lot more rules. Perhaps three or four times as many. There should be more arbitrary refs calls on issues in general play. Think of the excitement.

I'm with you.

We could have a Ref Interchange Bench for when they start flagging in the last quarter of the game.

Sub someone on who can really move that pea when it counts.

Seriously though. We take the piss, but it's one job I'd absolutely hate to have.

I do think some of them are rougher on Manly than others, nonetheless, we should be grateful.

Could you imagine how much worse it'd be if sCam's dad was reffing.
