THE NSW Waratahs are returning to the home of the Sea Eagles by playing a trial game against Melbourne Rebels at Lottoland in the new year.

The game on February 15 demonstrates again demonstrates that the northern beaches is a major stronghold of rugby in Australia.

The decision by the Waratahs to come back to the ground follows the success of the trial game they played at Brookvale in February.

More than 5000 fans turned out to watch NSW go down to the Highlanders 50-47 in a game which finished in a thrilling finish.

Fittingly, local hero and Manly Marlins junior was a standout performer playing in his own backyard.

“When we last played at Brookvale it was awesome to see the families come along and the community embracing the team,” said Waratahs coach Daryl Gibson.

“It would be great if we could create that fantastic atmosphere again because I know that the team, and particularly the players from that region, cannot wait to play at Brookvale again.

You know, if they could be convinced to play actual Super Rugby games at Brookie rather than just trial games.....the government might be more inclined to put more money into the ground.

It would be of enormous help though, if turdburger wasn't grandstanding and pontificating about his big stadium obsession and pushed for what the fans of the game not just Manly actually want.
The idiot just doesn't get it.

If the Government proceeds with its lunacy to re-build the Football Stadium (and Homebush) then Brookie could become the home of the 'Tahs for a few seasons. This 'Tahs support comes from the north so it would make logistical sense, and gaining some money from rugby may convince the Council and the NSW Government to improve Brookie.

The Waratahs have just moved out of their corporate office at Moore Park and have a new headquarters and training facility at David Phillips Park in Daceyville where they will be based for at least the next 6 years. You can't get much further from Brookvale than that without leaving Sydney so I doubt they will be playing anything more than a trial game.
Who knows, the fact that the Waratahs want to play one trial at Brookvale may be reason enough for our union loving (Rugby Union that is, not CFMEU) Federal Member for Waringah to actually start pushing for an upgrade to our neglected ground.

To help rugby league we should kill of rugby union in Australia imo. Then we can kill off afl. Then eradicate all sporting codes but league

Union is doing a great job killing itself off, as for AFL, whilst you still have Victorians living in this country, you'll never kill of AFL, as $hithouse a game as it is, to them down there it's their religion, it's a bit like Scientology, you always wonder why people follow it, yet more and more still do.
As for Rugby League, the administration of the game itself is doing a great job in trying to kill it, however the game is so resilient that it always survives.

$hithouse game no (sorry but I grew up on the game and I do love it....not as much as league, but its in my blood). But its also a religion in SA, WA, Tassie and the NT.

Rugby Union is still big on the northern beaches. As more and more people leave the lower north shore and move to the beaches Rugby hasn’t really declined on the peninsular.

I think it would be great to get as many games as possible played at Brookie. As @CJAeagle mentioned if we can get the Mariners to play a game or two it would really help the old girls cause.
