NRL ranks clubs financial performance

But I thought this was only a passion project and the owners did not make much money?
(Also pretty sure this excludes the NRL grant again showing how $ there is to be made)
As I have said many many times this is a profitable investment considering the amount spend is relatively low risk - why change?

Penn has made plenty of coin out of his ownership.

One would think that if the owner loved the club as much as he professes, and it isn't just a vanity project, these profits would be turned into asset building for the club to future proof it's survival.

So the club looks to have to pay out Dessie plenty, jersey gate, the fallout will probably cost the club about 2 years of membership. no Manly fan should have to fork out coin to cover the appalling relationship between Des and Scotty

Private club, private issues, private funds. Its not for you and me to fund this crap, what about the payouts to all the CEO”s and lack of stability

Its not membership holding Manly back its idiots who we cant vote out.

penn has a stink that is very unattractive for Manly customers
Is this what you’re referring to in your first paragraph, JBB/Jimbo?

From regular de-stabiliser, Mr Dan Weidler. He is right on one thing though, the Pennistration should pay up:

Des-perate moves

A story this week that Manly had subpoenaed the Titans to provide phone records and other details of their dealings with Des Hasler was legitimate and interesting, but left the Sea Eagles looking out of touch.
Des Hasler.

It was leaked to News Corp that Manly were attempting to uncover information to support their cause in their dispute with Hasler, who is seeking a seven-figure sum from the club after it sacked him at the end of the 2022 season.

But the Sea Eagles were jumping at shadows. They wanted clarification over whether the Titans and Hasler had been in communication while he was still in charge at Brookvale. As any subpoenaed information will show, they are barking up the wrong tree. The Titans-Hasler negotiations were some of the most professional and well managed in recent history, taking place completely under the media’s radar.

Manly could learn a thing or two from the Titans about how to conduct contract talks, given recent reports about their handling of negotiations with Anthony Seibold over an extension to his deal.

Furthermore, Manly did not even have the courtesy to pick up the phone to England Rugby before offering Seibold a job while he was still under contract.

If Manly concentrated their efforts on resolving the contract dispute with Hasler instead of PR spin, everyone could move on.

Hasler will always remain one of Manly’s favourite sons thanks to his contributions as a player and coach. This saga is damaging the Sea Eagles, who need to put it to bed and continue developing their club under the unimpressive* Seibold.

*OK, so I did a little editing.

So would you be happy to see the club fold or be relocated because people refused to be members based on private ownership? Or would you prefer to become a member, pay your members fees to whoever (it’s always gunna cost something) and contribute (not solve) to keeping our beloved club where it’s been for nearly 80 years.

I just dont think our membership dollars determine anything. There is a constitution that gives guidlines but who is in any position to challenge it if the Penns just ride roughshed over these, lets say guidelines

The NRL now finances the clubs running costs, has put spending caps on players, coaches, footy departments etc. the club is being run like a conservative business , with minimal growth outside of reliable income sources

To compete , we need more 3rd party money for starters, better salary cap management, stability in the coaching ranks so we can plan to bring through young talent to supplement and none of that is linked to membership

But ultimately the comp looks to be expanding to 20 teams and thats going to take 10 plus years. No team will be aded until we get to 20, PVL has no Appetite to move or destroy existing customer base

I would say TV numbers are just about the most important thing manly fans could do.moving forward. get a pay TV subscription and pay the real decision makers with your ratings

If Manly get in trouble and call for support , ill be there. I donated to the souths raleigh more than once , but cant find the need to support the current model

But hey, love your passion. Do what you think feels right for you and be proud.faith is cool

Im just not a tuna guy, always preferred salmon

Thanks for bringing content to my opinion. Champion

What about sardines? Have you ever felt like one, watching the game up near the crest of the Hill?

I have.
When i was young i ate the tin ones. When I got money and brave enough I never did again
They have them with tomato sauce and thats just wrong,

Do BBQ freshies at times though with platters

As has been said before, and I think you guys know whats up but just for 'the vibes'....

There's basically two clubs.

1) The Manly sea eagles - Join up, get a hat, get tickets, etc.

2) The MWRLFC - this club has two important votes.
a) club colours, and
b) Number of home games that have to be held at Brookvale.

It's also the 'keepers' of the clubs history, life membership votes, etc.

So if I had to chose just one (though I'm a member of both), I'd have to say I'd choose option #2.
I can do without a hat, but I wouldn't want an owner, any owner, to be able to unilaterally decide to move the club away from Manly.

I just wanted to reiterate the important distinctions between the "two clubs".

Now, it's 7.30am there...off you all go to Church!

Also, do we even have a Club building to go to anymore after a home game. It used to be the league's Club at Brookie, where, back in the day the players would show up and mingle with the fans after a home game. Now it's Dee Why.RSL i think or is it somewhere else?. Gone is the triumphant walk from the ground to the league's club after a win, well, I'm certainly not walking to Dee Why tho.

Manly CEO Tony Mestrov said the club’s home ground of 4 Pines Park at Brookvale had brought financial challenges.

“It’s a great place for the team to play, but it’s a challenge from a commercial point of view and that’s represented by our standing in the benchmarking,”

This is a depressing thought. You’ve got plenty of time left mate. And plenty of time for the club to get in order. However, it’s hard to imagine a team which currently includes both the NSW and QLD captain more than likely will miss the 8. It started going downhill when the Penn family became majority owners/shareholders.

I reckon in the next 10 years the club is more likely to fold than win a comp.

Our line up is only a par with Dragons, Knights, Eels etc neither of those origin captains are star players in the prime of their careers. Both excellent players but they are our Moses and Gutherson, Gagai and Frizelle, Hunt and Lomax etc We need no injuries and a stack of luck to play in late September.

That said this year could be our best chance given the eveness of the comp.
