NRL: Manly is Currently 14th in Power Rankings

true points that can be made about us as well, Walker will be much better back in the centres and Green a far better 5/8 and TT will be a lot better for the experience last year and a full off season training as fullback unlike last year.

With a month to go last year we were a chance at the top 8 even with all those injuries until Lyon got injured, this year we will be closer in balance to the team with Lyon at 5/8 which won more than they lost.
Absolutely. I was going to say there are similarities between us. The difference however is that we've boight a couple of players who may take time to gel.

@Mark from Brisbane On the point of taking time to gel, another way to view this is that last year all the preseason ball work would have included players in key positions that when the first shots were fired got injured and suddenly everything was being swapped around.

This year all the new boys have had FG experience, a preseason of team training and ball work, and personal motivation to hit the ground running. With the exception of a couple of outside backs and players competing for backrow spots, most positions are settled and would have been trained in, even the reggies.

A real concern for me is the absence of Lussick for the all important first 4 weeks. His missing turns a formidable pack into just a good pack. He may well have been the difference.

Besides all that, they've just seen 20 odd blokes thrown to the wolves, or worse, to Parramatta, and fear is a great motivator to do good.

Love the optimism, fellas, even if I can't share it. Again, it's another "almost new" team and, just like last season, we won't really have any idea what we're dealing with until we've seen them play a game or two (and preferably a few more). We haven't recruited any superstars, mostly a mix of journeymen and up and comers, and whether they'll be able to blend with existing players into an effective team remains to be seen.
Looking at it from a neutral's perspective, 14th is probably about right. That might change as the season progresses (with any luck we'll be looking up rather than down). Then again, it might not. If there's any lesson we can take from last year it's not to expect too much too soon.

I love those that are optimistic, but find if I'm like that I get desperately dissapointed.

I share your thoughts exactly, if we do better I'll be over the moon!!

Lussick missing the first 4 weeks could really hurt us. If we can split those 4 games and get 2 wins before he gets back then I'll be happy.

Tapau, Lussick, AFB and Jake all firing at the same time will be a big plus for us.

AFB came on in the second half of the year for us, so having him with some experience, fitter and starting the season will be a big plus. Hopefully Lawrence can add something off the bench as well.

Then the young newbies - we really need one or two of them to come good.

Better halves this year and fatser outside backs with a fit Tom T, Walker in position, Uate and possibly Kelly. We should improve if we can keep injuries to a minimum.

Manly will do what we like to do and prove people wrong, I reckon 6th, plenty of improvement with a proper 5/8, a proper squad without a bunch and oh boy do I mean a bunch of injured stars (at the moment :tmi:), some quality recruits in Green, Uate, Siro, Kelly, Hastings (if used or developed right), lane and perrett who all have plenty of potential that some I can see reaching in 2017. We have a great young forward pack (bar Myles) and are unlikely to have Lewis Brown in our starting side come rd 1! What's not to like about that

In 2016 we could have made the 8 without the season annihilating injury list, so in 2017 with a fit and healthy side that's only improved on 2016's one I see no reason why we can't return to finals football with some money to spend in the off season. I've also noticed of late that the side seems really well bonded which is very nice to see

Green is a great signing, if he plays to his capabilities and DCE is 100% fit we are already a mile ahead of where we were last season

Don't really get all the Uate hate, obviously the Knights wanted to get rid of him because of the ridiculous coin he was on. While he form may not have been what it was, he is still a former multiple time winger of the year and we have him on the cheap. Knows his way to the line and runs the ball strongly out of our own end which is something we need

This time last season Hastings was rated high enough that Maloney wasn't seen as a loss on Rooster land, kid has ability which hopefully we can bring out

Other signings all have potential very good upsides as well. Think back to this time last year and what the concensus was on Lussick coming back, and look how that turned out, Sironen and co have that inside them as well and if only 2 of them actually achieve it then we will be in a good spot

The potential is there, Lussick, Taupau, Jake will lay a fairly good platform most weeks, Green and DCE both have the ability to create off that and Tom, Taufua, Walker and Uate are all proven finishers when given an opportunity

The big word is potential, doesn't always get lived up too, and there are a lot of variables that can derail a season instantly to confidently predict where any team will drop in. Personally I see us somewhere in the middle 8 and in the scrap
