Sure both the Tigpies and St Merge have each won a premiership. But when you look at the two clubs ... the Tigpies are a shambles and as a club are about the same as what Wests and Balmain were 20 or so years ago with yearly calls for them to go back to being Wests and Balmain. While in all reality, St Merge was really nothing more than St George taking over Illawarra and giving token use of their name, home ground and jumper.

And both clubs in recent years have fallen into the category of those who have to start offering overs to name players just to get them to even consider joining. Take a look at the recent Latrell Mitchell saga. He turned down the Tigpies million dollar, play fullback offer to sign with Souffs for less money. And you know what? I really can't blame him for doing that.

Hey this is an old off season thread made following an all nighter and a searing hatred of a **** coach, anything then would've been a great idea to off Barrett

I know the date but we were pathetic under the bitchboi

Good times I still get heat from it lol

I attended the first game at the Central Coast, just seeing the players reacting to each other you knew it was going to fail.

And then there were all the Manly supporters in one area and the Bear supporters in the other, there was actually a fight at the end of the game , even though we were supposed to be supporting the same side.

My mate, a Knights supporter came to the game with me and thought it was hilarious.

Doomed from day 1!

**** the Bears!
Do not write bear or bears in porn hub, you've been warned

In the second last round of 2002 the NE's beat NZ by 18-16 at Brookie in front 7K fans. The win practically locked up a top 8 final place, as all they had to do was beat Penrith who were in the bottom three. A crowd of 14K were at Brookie. Just after half time Penrith led 56-6. The NEs missed the finals and joined the dead clubs society.

EAGLES PREPARE FINALS CONFIDENCE TRICK
2 September 2002

Confidence is a wonderful thing - just ask the Northern Eagles.

The Eagles, growing in self-belief with each outing, took a giant step towards the National Rugby League finals today with an 18-16 win over the New Zealand Warriors at Brookvale Oval.

The victory moved the home side coached by Peter Sharp into seventh place in the premiership and left it needing only a win over Penrith at home next weekend to secure an unlikely spot among the competition's elite.

"We should (make the finals) now," Sharp said yesterday.

"Games have gone our way this weekend and that was a magnificent effort out there today. They rolled their sleeves up.

"From where we were at the start ... we have come a long way."

Sharp is the first to admit the finals were the last thing on his mind as he scraped together a team in the pre-season, and even further from his thoughts after a 68-10 round five defeat at the hands of the Warriors in Auckland.

But thanks to three wins in their past five games, the Eagles are set to steal a finals berth and head into the play-offs on the back of consecutive victories.

The Warriors, on the other hand, find themselves in the depths of a late-season form slump which threatens to undo four months of good work.

The loss to the Eagles comes on the back of a 44-0 defeat at the hands of the Sydney Roosters.

Warriors coach Daniel Anderson admitted his side was struggling with its confidence, but claimed their cause hadn't been helped by the performance of referee Tim Mander, who he said allowed his side to be "crucified".

"I don't know what the rules are for the semis, but if you're allowed to lay on people, put your hand on the footy, that's old-style footy, " Anderson said yesterday.

"We were disciplined. We couldn't get anything today, could not get anything. We got murdered, absolutely murdered."

That prompted Sharp to query: "Who shot them?"

"I thought we dominated them in the tackle like the Sydney Roosters did last week," Sharp said.

"He needs to have a look at that. We just took a leaf out of Sydney City's book from last week to tell you the truth."

The plan worked to perfection as the Eagles came back from a 10-6 halftime deficit to steal a vital two points thanks to second-half tries from inspirational captain Steve Menzies and unlikely hero Shayne Dunley.

Dunley, who has been told he is not wanted by the club next season, should have scored in the 51st minute when he ran onto a John Hopoate pass, but desperate defence from Brent Webb and Mark Tookey stopped him getting the ball down.

But the 26-year-old made no mistake 21 minutes later when presented with a second opportunity.

"We stuck with them to halftime and we knew we could get them in the end," Dunley said.

"If we win next week we might be able to give a few teams a shake in the semis."
