Great to see the launch of North America Rugby League overnight.

If this turns out to work well, then this could be what's needed to get rugby league going across the globe.

It will be interesting to see if Penn has a stake in the NYC based team.

I hope this is a success and would love to see some "senior" players go and play a season there to improve the skill level, just like they should be going out to the country clubs.
Although, stories have been coming out since the 1950's of Rugby League starting off in the USA. There was even a time when our magazines had weekly updates of the progress of the progress of the game there.
Good luck and keen for them to have success.

Some good names among this lot. My favourites:
The Washington Cavalry (we could use some cavalry);
The Austin Armadillos (the US equivalent of the Melbourne Storm -- a team full of pricks); and The Phoenix Venom (perfect in these Covid times)

Great start...

The original launch date of June 19th, 2021 was scheduled, however, several factors have made this overly ambitious.

Inflated travel and insurance costs along with rigorous health and safety restrictions have already seen a need to rationalize the proposed structure for the West Coast, and now the NARL has taken the prudent and measured steps of delaying the full competition until the Spring of 2022

Good luck to them. It's a rough time to be trying to launch a new venture. I hope Cleveland and New York put more energy into their playing than they have their naming.

"Cleveland Rugby League" is very Cleveland like.

But the Austin Armadillos rocks!

Hope they are smart enough to play the first few seasons under the 5m rule and not 10m. Be a big mistake for park footballers to copy the NRL rules and its idiotic fitness demands for footy.

Why no Vancouver Velociraptors ? @globaleagle Weak as p1ss....

Pssssh, v'raptors were small and covered in feathers! Hollywood lies!

But Spielberg said the v'raptor sounded more dramatic than the Deinonychus so used that.

Then they discovered the utahraptor which more closely resembled the movie version.

Possibly... I digress!

Actually that's a good name (better than Vancouver vikings or something like that).

One drawback being the west coast, everything happens on the east.

Ok...

So it's still a little shambolic but there was a game the other day (at least) which about 3 people knew about.

The Toronto Wolfpack were to play the Ottawa aces in a 'Canada cup' match - but the Aces pulled out.

"The new-look Wolfpack eased past Washington DC Cavalry 42-6 at Lamport Stadium, in front a couple of thousand fans."

Toronto: Blake Mahovic, Darsha Wadduwage, Jordan Henry, Luke Toroca, Steven Adu, Josh Allan, Greg Wise, Matthew Barron (captain), Nathan Roberts, Charles Curran, Callum Botchar, Jason Park, Scyler Dumas, Tyronie Rowe, Andrei Bashesvsky, David Astley, Ray Bissonette, Jason Chuck.

DC Cavalry: Ryan Burroughs, Gabe Cuprill, Carlos Vegerano, Ty Elkins, Genesis Lucis, Max Riseham, Nick Hails, Jase Barahana, Shane Milame, Brandon Lough, Chris Frazier, Chris Burroughs, Michael Mastraianni, Daniel Tupou, Sean Huntington, Andrew Giguere, Scott Christian, Theo Fleder, Nate Wills.

The name is the only thing staying the same from the collapse of the TW a couple of years ago.

Anyway...

Wearing a kit borrowed from the Iroquois Roots Rugby organisation, the Wolfpack side featured former Wales international and Newcastle Thunder prop Matt Barron and Canada Wolverines captain Scyler Dumas.

The inaugural Canada Cup game, with DC replacing Ottawa Aces, was set up to provide a taster to fans ahead of the new North American Rugby League competition set to commence in 2022.

DC Cavalry were coached by former Toronto player and USA international Ryan Burroughs, and they are one of the teams lined up to play in the NARL.

Some long-standing fans of the Wolfpack have also criticised the lack of transparency coming from the new-look club, with its ownership group still remaining a mystery.

Australian entrepreneur David Argyle, who invested tens of millions in to the project, walked away in August and an attempt by new owner Carl LiVolsi to remain in Super League was rejected by other clubs.

No names have been attributed to any Wolfpack announcement in recent months, other than “Team Wolfpack”, including the announcement of Matt Wyles as head coach and Liquid Death Mountain Water as jersey sponsor.

A statement on the Wolfpack website reads: “The new Wolfpack team purchased the intellectual properties from the original Wolfpack company. We did not purchase the company, or its liabilities.

“However we feel the right thing to do for our fans is to issue complimentary 2022 season tickets to any fan we have on record that had purchased one and hasn’t received a refund from the previous company.

The Carolina Cup is on in a few days according to some guy who called 200 or so nrl games (dunno)
