Seems we have selective memories. Yes we last won a premiership in 2011, but easy to forget that the Sea Eagles should have won the 2014 premiership but for some questionable ref decisions. Note on that day DCE won the Rothman's Medal, one of the very rare occasions a player on the losing side of a GF won it.
I look at some Manly past greats. Toovey (0ne premiership), Cliff Lyons (one premiership), Menzies (two premierships, Turbo (no premierships). Are they at fault for not getting more premierships. Of course not. Its all dependent upon the team around you. The acknowledged best wing man of all time in Australia played thirteen years at Norths without a premiership. Had to come to Manly to win two at the end of his career. Its meaningless to suggest somehow DCE is at fault for Manly not winning since 2011. Ask how any spoons he helped Manly avoid in the past decade innstead with the pedestrian lot we had.
As for the issue concerning DCE leaving Manly, two points I should make. Firstly its always unwise to assume based on limited nformation, as to what is happening behind the scenes. Many are blaming the club, many blaming DCE but I wonder how many really know what is happening. Secondly, what's the big issue for goodness sake if he does grab a pot of gold from another club at the end of his career. Its hardly rare. Fulton left Manly for a pot of gold with Easts in 1975, Vautin did the same in 1990, we lauded Brannigan, Moses, O'Neill, Brown, Dorahy, Boyd, Kennedy, Roberts etc etc for taking the big dollar and leaving their home club. Menzies, from what I understand, was very near leaving Manly for Parramatta in his later years, something Watmough later did. So f..ing what if DCE is looking for a final descent payout and a swan song at a different club. Say DCE and its suddenly betrayal. Say anyone else and its good luck to them. Go figure.
