No huge surprise- Illawarra a dog**it side wins i a gallop
Manly offered zero
I know all are about winning with big Defence....fact is you need points....what are they by the way ??

I think we will finish this season strong and sneak into the finals on the back of some momentum. We can go all the way from there but will probably be stopped by one of the NRLs favourites in controversial fashion again. Next season with Fainu back we can win it.
How's that feeling now?

There is no explosiveness or leg speed throughout the squad, no player that really has footy speed, we lack quality athletes.

No player really has a turn of speed off the mark to either make a half break, or generate a fast play the ball.

No point generating offloads when you lack flair to take advantage of second phase play, no point moving the ball around with training like second man plays without good direct leg drive to bend the middle beforehand.

Back in the one dimensional attack of quick play the balls under Barrett the positive times Manly played well is when Akuila Uate, Walker, Tom etc were able to generate punch through the play the ball at speed----we lack athletes all over the park.

Even Tom is not a "off the mark" turn of speed player that is going to generate tries from pure pace or footwork---he does have rolling turn of pace though.

It is good to see DCE this year(at times throughout the year) starting to take the line on more at pace with footwork, he has always had it and it will serve him well in the future to simplify his game.(even though it resulted in a intercept try today)

Too much lumbering slow play, i gave up after 25mins and enjoyed dinner instead, watched the last 20mins to kill idle time.

This year (and I mean; making the finals and having some shot) is over. Whatever mental toughness and confidence they had, they used up against the Raiders.

The past 3 weeks have been woeful. The sharks and dragons are just average sides and both smashed us. I don’t know what Des is doing or telling them during the week but they look like, they’ve got no idea what to do.

Confidence is at 0%, teamwork is barely discernible and their discipline is poor. Taufua didn’t “need” to drop his shoulder into Dufty. He gets a 10 minute rest while his teammates suffer. DCE did the same last week.

Individually they’re trying but they can’t seem to play as a team at the moment. Individual efforts is all we’ve had the past couple of weeks and it’s not enough. Des has to actually coach them out of this. The season is done. He must blood some new players now and give them experience for next season.

There is nothing - lifeless
Need players knowing there roles snd looked like a bunch of strangers today who were given an u13 story of catch the ball and run ....kick the ball...tackle....boring , predictable and a sorry way to enf the weekend

Agree with the one dimensional attacking game, the coaching staff need a good kick up the bum for letting this drag on for the last month.

Speed is an issue though the backline and highly evident when DCE split them on the left edge and set Duffy up for four points.

Having an athlete with the skill of Albert Hoppa and picking blokes like Garrick and Elliot is an absolute disgrace.

Defensive line speed today was the worst at I seen this season.

Taufua lacks many things in his game but at least he has leg drive and can generate some quick play the balls because he wants to punch through the line and lands front on many times, Parker tries in this department also even though he too has many limitations.

I'm so over hop skip half arsed go forward lumbering running, turning to the side and more concerned about second phase pop out the back offloads---what about offloads through the line and short passing off the hip instead to straight runners.(i guess it is a more high risk play which is low percentage)

Well the one dimensional attack comment was in relation to the Barrett years but going through the motions block plays / second man plays generate nothing and allows defences to just slide when not enough work is done up the middle at pace or explosiveness to stretch the edges for numbers.

Jorge does run into the defensive line hard, however his hands in placing the ball to the ground while playing the ball slow down the speed of the play the ball I have noticed lately. Must have got drilled for dropping the ball..

He has played the ball like that for years, without any real change to his ptb speed.

Always been an issue but he does win us many penalties on the early sets because refs are more inclined to blow the whistle if they see a player hit the grass front on after punching through the line.

Next year can't come fast enough.. Des needs to get the broom out now and start planning for the future. Recruitment needs to nab a few good first graders as well as a fair amount of quality depth. I believe we need to move on Taufua, Anderson, Parker, Smith, Elliot, Croker, Paseka, Sipley, Levi, Gosiewski, Boyle, Waddell, trex, that's 13 players there in our 30 that just don't cut it.

Are there that many players even available on the market for next year who are unlikely to sign with their existing sides ??

Obviously it would need to be done over a season or two.. I just feel there are better options out there. Plenty of forwards out there that run hard, tackle hard, have mongrel that are on budget contracts. Specialist positions may be a lil trickier

Our team needs a 5/8 every team needs to play with 2 halves ,we haven't since Green left.

Patience. Lets wait and see what Schuster has to offer, before we panic about 5/8. Based on junior performances, he's a star in the making. Just needs to be seen in first grade to determine if that skill transfers to that level.
