News: Hodges out for up to six months

Brisbane Broncos boss Bruno Cullen said the club feared it had lost centre Justin Hodges for the whole of the NRL season.

Hodges has had surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon, sustained during a conditioning drill at the University of Queensland.

The 27-year-old Test centre should be back on the field within eight months, around finals time.

The club says the surgeon was happy with the procedure and used a new technique that will reduce scarring and speed up Hodges' recovery.

"Going in there this morning, this is the best possible news," Cullen said.

"The situation is poor obviously, at least six months out of footy is not a good thing for a pro footballer.

"But going in there with the worse-case scenario and getting the best-case scenario is good news for this time."

Who is going to take over the role as number one cat in the Qld Origin side now ? I think Slater has the  potential, he is certainly a big enough grub, just needs to learn a decent throat slitting gesture and how to hide behind his forwards when the action is on.
