News: Deadlock over Brookie facelift

The farce that is the Council continues. It is getting to the point where the State government will be called in to appoint an administrator again.

when it gets down to the vote about what to actually do surely those in the local area who house value is directly affected need to sit out due to conflict of interest.

Why do we even still have councils - it just adds another layer of useless government administration bureaucrats that could be run at a state level. Let’s face it the only reason they become councillors is because they fail to become a politician at either federal or state level.

What do councillors offer us (very little indeed) other than they receive free sandwiches and they have the personality of a large empty cupboard box, i.e. big and squared with a lot of empty space on the inside.

These wannabes offer very little other than pretending to be tree hugging environmental terrorists. They hijack all forms of governments for their own personal agenda and never are really interested in the overall good of the broader community.

If it were for them we all be living tree houses, walking to work, have no cars and be living like a third world country and would tax the public for the air we breathe.

Well enough should be enough, its time these crackpots get on with progress and supported the community in giving the greatest team in the NRL and their supporters and the broader community a facility of the 21st century.

Off with their heads for anyone opposed to the redevelopment I say. (I doubt anyone would shed a teardrop).

Well said fluffy, if they didn't like the oval they shouldn't have purchased their houses in the first place so maybe it’s time that those opposed to redevelopment moved on.

This is just like living near and airport. You buy knowing what you get and then these idiots come along and want to move the goalposts.

Sure, local concerns must be heard but we are talking about 5 Friday nights, 5 Saturday nights and 5 Sundays a year at the most that affect everyone. Unless the council is going to pour 500 million into developing a new purpose built facility at Rat Park or elsewhere, then they have to upgrade Brookvale. The other aspects of the park remain for the public.

Sadly these total boofheads would rather the loss of Manly in the NRL (and that team belongs to the whole Manly Warringah district plus millions of other fans that live elsewhere) rather than work with the football club. It is damned selfish in my view.

Next thing you know they will be campaigning to stop trucks and buses on Pittwater Rd.

not all councilors are failed state/feds, some use it for experience to get there.

I know at least one councilor (rather well) who is not in it for anything else except for experience in planning and to help the community.

That said there are many who are in it for the reasons stated

If you have these views i say get to a meeting to express them rather than keyboard hero posts. It will have more effect.

Fluffy don't take it so seriously and personal, personally attacking me and stating that I have expressed a hero post are well off the mark even though my last comment was tongue in cheek, so I hope you have sense to retract.

As you, I to have a right to express my view even if we do not see eye to eye on various topics, thus this is what makes us into individual’s but I will draw a line when you make an incorrect statement which way from the truth. (hero post - my arse).

I stand by my comments and values that local governments add very little of value to the generally community and majority of councillors pander to minority groups with minority agenda’s and traditionally the minority groups always appear to be the loudest that complain. CW stated correctly that this is just like the whingers that purchased houses near the airport and wanting to change the goalposts to suit their own agenda.

I will admit there are a minority of councillors that do a marvellous job and are brought undone by the select few that have no conscious or morals however if you look at it in the broader sense the self interested aligned factions mostly accomplish what they set out for.

As you state that you know of at least one councillor (rather well) who is not in it for anything else except for experience in planning and to help the community. Well that’s all good and great for he/she, I hope they continue to be successful at what they do. There are also other councillors that will fight for the redevelopment to proceed and at the end of the day even these individuals only have a single agenda that do not look at the overall community requirements.

Brookvale oval is a significant recreational facility which plays an important role in both the local and national sporting environment as well as providing much needed neighbourhood park area. If development was to proceed, it needs to be done in such a way that is in harmonious balance. For this to be attained it requires ongoing involvement of the community considering all stakeholders needs not just the few that have personal agendas.

I have not seen anyone provide a sensible alternative if Brookvale oval was to not receive a massive much required redevelopment. I would love to take on the fight but I have chosen a career in the corporate world not that open to the scrutiny of the public eye, plus not living in the direct area wouldn’t help the cause but I do offer my support for those who are there fighting the cause. Don’t under estimate it because the alternative is that you could possible lose a team that represents the area and the community

OEE, don't be too sensitive either - My reading is that it was a generic comment about keyboard heroes rather than a targeted personal response. Both of you have made valid contributions to a good debate.

Worth noting that many councils are over-represented by Developers and their contacts in addition to those from political parties or the Greens.

Unfortunately CW, personal experiences with councils demonstrate that most of them are over run by greens. Developers and development isn't a necessary evil it’s a necessity if it’s done in the right way.

As I don't live in the area I have been unable to locate anything anywhere where someone has even suggested a sustainable alternative solution. So if anyone has anything please indulge me.

Anyone should be able to post on any forum and honestly express their opinion however time and time again I see that the real hero posters are the ones that try to shoot someone down for expressing an opinion.

Even if I attended a council meeting to express my support of the redevelopment,  I would guarantee you there would be clowns that would try to shoot me down by simply stating I have no right to express my view for the fact that I don't live in the area. Damned if I do and damned if I don’t.

I still would have a beer with fluffy after the council meeting if he wants to drink with me, it’s his personal opinion and thus that is what makes us individuals. But I can understand why he has been so defensive on the subject as I am certain that I have touched a raw nerve.  :-*

Personal experience tell me first hand that anyone on council or working for them are either failed at a higher level or in private enterprise. They then use council to take thier frustrations out on the general public. Council employees or councillors there for the genuine good of the public are very few and far between. And trust me i know this first hand in my day to day dealings with Council staff and Councillors, dont put your faith in them, please......

Doing that Fro would not be any harm but I still think we need State Governments - as othewise Councils would have even more power and things would grind to a halt.

I am leaning towards abolishing the State government (and saving a fortune) and going for super councils which have development groups making decisions for areas within the council.

State governments seem to add nothing, fail in providing consistent laws across Australia which allow criminal activities to operate from different States, and keep getting important services such as health and infrastructure wrong. At least the Federal government can have a central pot divided for the betterment of the nation and you won't have bankrupted State coffers raising taxes to pay for their individual mismanagement. I am not positive this is the right direction but what we have now isn't working.
