New coach Poll

If we go down this avenue, interested in who we think we should target?

Even though our owner wouldn't stump up the cash required, Ivan Cleary.
Its been said we need an ex Manly player to coach us to a premiership.
Even he couldn’t put the polish on this lot…….. with that in mind……no matter how hard you polish a turd, the thing is still a turd…….and we are about as close to Sh1t as you can get.

Manly has never won a premiership without a coach who was a former Manly player.

Not going back to Hasler. Cleary is only option from the current NRL coaches. Ballin is not experienced enough.

Vote 1 GEOFF TOOVEY
The Ex players that led us to premiership glory were also legend coaches.

We just need a really good coach no matter the background. Easier said than done I know. But yes if the owner had the money and the nouse he would throw the cheque book at Cleary.

Never forget Penn’s quote when he sacked Tooves in 2015. We finished 9th that year despite all the contract dramas, after finishing 2nd the year before and 4th the year before that (and making the GF).

“As a club, we are a results driven business. We live and die by our results on the field. 2015 has not been a season we are used to. The thought of potentially missing the finals after Ten years of consecutive Final appearances is not a place we want to be as a Club.

In the 9 years that have followed we have only done better than 9th 4 times and we haven’t really been a serious premiership contender in any of those years. We have also finished 11th, 12th, 13th (twice), and even 15th.

The rot starts at the top.

And all that was compounded by the shafting of Hasler after the owner instigated pride fiasco. We should never have got away from Manly DNA - it has been the recipe for every success we have ever had.

BA definitely not.

Holbrook the best of those above and perhaps Hannay if we want a first timer.

If we were serious we would throw a bucket load of cash at a better coach under contract.

I think there is zero chance that Seibs is about to get the sack. It's rock bottom for Manly fans but it's not rock bottom by comparison with what it usually takes for a coach to be punted in the NRL. Still, if I had to choose, I'd take Holbrook. I thought he did well with the Titans and was hard done by.
You’re probably right, but some would say the bar was set by the owner when Tooves was sacked for finishing 9th and Hasler was made the fall guy for pride jersey gate, before which we were in a competitive position. If he stays true to his “results driven business” he will have to act. But then again, he’s the owner and can therefore do and say whatever he wants.

Of the coaches listed, I’d go Holbrook with Ballin as assistant coach & try to bring Steve Menzies into the coaching ranks.

I think it’s too early for Ballin to be given a head coaching gig, but Holbrook has experience at the top & is currently doing time as assistant at the Roosters.
Holbrook for two years, with a succession plan of Ballin and Menzies for the future.

Tooves was sacked because he aligned himself with the Quantum side of the board. When they were paid out, Penn went about removing those in opposition.

Hasler and Penn have hated each other for years. They put their difference aside for as long as possible, but ultimately couldn’t ride it out.

I don’t believe Penn has a results driven ethos, rather, he is political. Unless Seibs upsets Penn, he’s safe to do his job unless it gets really bleak in a footy sense; I’m talking a couple of years of bottom four.

And so we tossed a legend and ended up with a dud who has never won anything and nearly got us the spoon in fact. I fear Siebold maybe heading on the same trajectory
Good one Mr Fluffy, who if there is ever a bad decision to be made you can be sure he will be front and center making it
I wouldn't mind Burgess or Willie Peters, my memory of Peters before he got garroted in I think another semi political hit job, he was rated as a great up and coming coach .Either with Balin as the assistant or even Toovey if he was interested
The thing with Burgess he would put the fear of god into under performers of which we have a surplus, he did get his team to the Super league GF and Peters won it didn't he ?
Anyways I'm still in shock from 2 weeks of the most appalling displays of lack of intent ,commitment in defense and toothless attack and general backbone I have ever seen from a Manly team .I know the players play ,but alot of that rests with the coach, and it's not like he has got a rich history of laurels that he can rest on .So Im worried about the rest of the season tbh and next year

The roster is way better than we’re showing. The evidence is that one week we can play like world beaters and the next we get beaten by lowly clubs like Newcastle and GC. Thats an attitude thing and the responsibility for getting attitude right rests mainly on the head coach and other coaches to a lesser extent.
I actually don’t think we’ve played like world beaters at all this year Chunk. One good win v Penrith, most of the rest pretty garbage. Agree tho we should be better. There’s problems when we can’t get it done v Knights (when up 16!) and Titans.

It’s been said so many times on these boards, but we have a wooden spoon quality pack of forwards. Unfortunately, a number of them were recruited by Seibs. He may or may not be able to coach. He sure as hell can’t recruit though.

I hated the Woods signing. I hated the Brown signing. I hated the Lodge signing. I hated the TKO signing. I hated the Aloiai re-signing. Crap, crap, crap, crap and crap.

Seriously, if we signed Fletcher Baker from the Broncos reserve grade, he’d be our premier middle and forward leader 😂

Interested in peoples thoughts on this... do we need experience or modern/ innovation?
My thoughts are we need what the dogs have and they have invested in Great people with all those attributes
Where are all these Great people ?
The Old Bulldogs Management had no Idea ????
The Old Bulldogs management who ran the dogs club to the ground had no Idea where these Great people were as they invested in duds and in return they disgraced their club by adding spoons to their status
The rot does start at the top and the top was decapitated as the Kennel had a clean out and Invested in New decision makers that found Great people that made their club Great again .
Where are all these Great people ?
The Greater and smarter people than us on this forum and our Manly club Know

Again, don’t disagree with any of that. But just going off the “results driven business” quote, he risks being labelled a hypocrite if this continues and he doesn’t act. But maybe he doesn’t care about that. If this does continue, the media pressure will be more on Mestrov.
