The whole concept is a disgrace.I see the roosters have done it too.For once I totally agree with Gibson on the back page.No doubt a couple of geeks thought it would be a great way to honour the ANZACS.
I am sure the geeks have meant well but I am sick of this linking of sporting contests with those who have died at war.Blokes running around on 300k + a year does not compare to the sacrifices of the 100,000 plus who have given their lives in various wars.
The rise of national recognition for the ANZACS over the last 15 years has been sensational and a long time coming but once again the the ugly forces of commercialisation will do their best to cheapen it.Play the last post, honour the diggers at our game but dont dress up as war heroes please!
Plus it is downright ugly.
I respect your opinion and your passion on this is obvious, however you are missing the whole point of it, no one is dressing up players as war heroes.
I don't know whether you have served your country or not but let me tell you as a ex digger myself, anything and I mean anything that brings attention, awareness and recognition to our past and present troops is a positive thing.
These is so much the public does not know about how our troops are treated by our government, one example is that I had to take out life insurance for my son before he was deployed as our government will not pay an compensation if he is KIA, as he is single.
This is only the tip of the iceburg, its even worse when they leave injured, they have to fight for everything. Sorry don't mean to jump on my soapbox.
I sent a couple of these Jerseys to him in Afghanistan and it was an hit with all the troops in battalion, not just the Manly supporters.
It was no geek who designed the Manly jersey, it was an an ex Digger who served in Iraq and is now the owner of the company sponsoring the jersey.
