My toughest pack from the day I started being a Sea Eagles supporter would be:

8. Mark Carroll
9.Geof Toovey
10. Kevin Ward
11. Ian Roberts
12.Steve Menzies
13. Ben Kennedy

14. Ron Gibbs
15. Solomon Houmano
15. David Gillespie
16. Jake Trbojevic

Special mention to Brenton Lawrence for playing with passion after a serious injury
Very close to adding big Haumono- he killed a few with his hits....also could offload brilliantly....just feel 1 of those “could be up with the best ever” players, who never cashed in on his ability.

of the Manly forwards I have seen play live and based on ticker, toughness, mobility & skill
Kevin Ward
Max Krilich
Terry Randall
Ian Roberts
Steve Menzies
Mal Reilly

Nik Kosef
Brent Kite
Les Boyd
Jake Trobjevic

I could name another two sets of forwards as special mentions

including John Harvey, John Grey, Bill Hamilton, Norm Pounder, Bill Bradstreet, Allan Thomson (second rower), Fred Jones, John O'Neil, Paul Vautin, Mark Carrol, Ron Gibbs ... and for his Manlyness and hardplay I'll throw in Jason King

Awesome pack Nightster - very close to adding Jones at 9....just didn’t witness him play...also the bomb thrower “Max Krillich”....mate tough call but I simply had to put Tooves in..., I mean the times he picked up a Wild Chief Harrogen and smashed him backward...earned his place.

Tooves would be in my top 12 backs at pick number two after Bob Fulton

I was lucky enough to watch the TOUGH Manly forwards through the 70's.

There were so many that were so tough that few since have lived up to their legacy.

That period is what instilled the legend of the "us v them" Manly siege mentality. It stemmed from pride in the jersey and they never gave an inch. Never!

Ward, F Jones, Pounder, Igor, Bucknall, Hamilton, Allan Thomson, Krillich, O Neill, Harvey, Grey and a few I can't remember right now. These guys were tougher than believeable, EVERY week.

In the 40+ years since then there have been few to have that steel. There were many that gave it from time to time, but not EVERY GAME.

Spud, Roberts, Toovey, Rambo, Kennedy, mostly, Kite maybe.

That steel is what made Manly great and the backs flowed on from that platform. The recent successes came from the same mould.

Until we re-create that Manly mentality we won't compete in the big $ NRL of today.

Toovey or an outsider like Madge are essential.

Just in regard to special mention references to past formidable Manly packs , apart from Bill Hamilton would also include guys like Phil Daly , [ his father must have been pretty handy too ] also definitely John Harvey and even Jason King . All local Manly juniors in their time with the Sea Eagles , all improved immeasurably in their time with Manly and with the exception of Jason King , became internationals . [ Jason S O O at least once ] Geoff Gerrard . Paul Mc Cabe and even Marty Bella , also Manly international players at some stage . Always liked Bruce Walker in his time with Manly but in the toughest category would always opt for Reilly , , Roberts , Igor , Rambo , and John O " Neil.but what a great array of forwards that Manly have been previously blessed with . In time i am sure that Jake Turbo will join their ranks also . [ if he hasn "t already ].

Many might not have seen him but Phil Lowe really went well for us in the 70,s

A pommy version of crusher
Yeah , forget about big Phil Lowe and on his day , a really dynamic ball runner with genuine speed for a big man . Woodsie would probably attest to some of his occasional indifferent ball handling but in his three years with Manly , a great acquisition and even seemed to eventually develop a type of tough side to his game .

Mark Broardhurst
Was also on tough player
That fight with Bugden in the semi and he played on with his face fractured up
That's toughness

Luke Burgess
Shayne Dunley
Nate Myles
Tom Symonds
Lewis Brown
Adam Cuthbertson

In all seriousness though I would go Michael Monaghan Circa 2007 and Ben Kennedy Circa 2006

Reilly
Roberts
Randall
Ward
Krilich
O'Neill

Ian Martin
Rambo
Vautin
Cement
Ballin
Spud.
I couldn't leave Ian Martin out cause he was a skillful lunatic.
And Fatty's toughness was very underrated.
Honourable mention to Milton Daley.
