It has me puzzled why they deleted the thread about radio rights but kept the Nigel pornstar thread,
seems to be rules for some

I guess as a subsiduary of the NRL they can't allow overt criticism of the parent body on an official website.

That being said, it appears as though a lot of this social thread nonsense is creeping in which is equally innapropriate if they're an official football forum.

It seems to be based on their own opinion (as in do you agree with them) as well as who they are mates with or not.

I notice the sgt thread got deleted as well, I guess it was OK for the gang to advertise the site, but when I advertised ST it was deleted........Too funny.

Very immature!

I just cant understand what harm it would do to advertise other forums, :bdh:
We are all Manly fans I thought
They are the same about it at LU as well, :wall:
Oh well
here, ManlyGang, Rockers Most of the time
MSE some of the time
LU maybe sometimes

Seems very strange to stiffle debate on radio rights particulary if it costs the club $$$ from a reduced cut of the share.

I am off the veiw that there was so much crap on the old MSE it was a times embarassing for the club - what successful business would allow some of that?? Not many I suggest.

The fourm is quiet because a lot of 'noses' were put out of joint particulary with SGT going and the riff raff have been removed who were just there to create trouble and post crap. Not all bad IMO and it will make the club look a lot more professional.

To increase the impact of the site to sponsors/other 'fringe' fans the club may not be aiming at the typical demographic that utilised the forums (particulary the General Forum).

That is the only reason I can see because of the dramatic change.

Wheel, that’s an interesting take of the situation at MSE as the forum there is certainly lacking any real impact at the moment. It is possible that’s the way club want it, bland and lacking any real depth to its topics.

But if you view our list of sponsors, both major and minor you would struggle to actually determine what demographic they would be targeting. Common sense and knowledge tells us that all football clubs supporter bases covers all demographics from the very top to those less fortunate. Manly is no different.

A quick look at our current major sponsors (excluding Delmege) shows companies as diverse as Strathfield Car Radios, who speciliase in low cost electronic items and presumably appealing to the lower end of the demographic scale and the QLD Group who are property developers specializing in Queensland Real Estate and whilst I wont enter the debate on the value of investing in Queensland Real Estate you would assume that they are appealing to the supporter who is towards the middle or higher end of the demographic scale. You then have sponsors that have value to all demographics such as Energy Australia, Gatorade & Reebok.

When you view the list of Silver Sponsors the list becomes even harder to define with companies ranging from Embroidery, Pubs, Financial Services, Engineering Shops and a Cake Shop.

So the question is, based on your notion what demographic are they appealing to? I can’t pick it and I think that’s the way it should be, so at the risk of repeating myself I think the club should be aiming their forums at all demographics with the only common denominator being that they are Manly Supporters.

Pete

One would think that the club would want to encourage as many people as possible to MSE so as to give the sponsors maximum exposure.

Whilst it is a lot cleaner now there is not much depth to its content and really no need to post there or even look at the site often.

They could still cull the idiots from posting on the site while having a more intersting site. If it was the great site they make it out to be then why are the other Manly sites proving to be more popular?

I would have thought that they would give the sponsors better exposure. Really how many people would go and click on a sponsor to see what they offer?

They need to make it so that sponsors offers jump out at you every time the site is visited.

Pete I am not sure what their strategy is either but with the change or removal of forums I can only sense that maybe that are trying to spread a wider net than what they previously did. I take your point about the sponsors which I have never actually looked at.

I think they really must improve their content eg regular & informative club news etc to generate discussions and traffic.

Look at their front page no news item since the SCG announcement despite the team starting training, new players arriving etc etc.

Wheel that's because Aaron Maarkie was relying on Haig coming on board to do content but he has received a better offer elsewhere.

So Aaron is trying to generate the content and I think it's fair to say as a writer, he writes a good IT manual.

Fair enough, surely there would be others out there who would be able to take over?

I would think that because it is the 'Official' site, that they would put a little more effort into it. The news is often slow and not current, which is a shame, as being the 'official' site it reflects back on the club. If I was a sponsor and had my name there for everyone to see, I would expect it to be managed professionally and have interesting news and articles to make people want to come and visit. I know it's the off season and hopefully things will pick up, but from the topics and some of the comments in the forum section - I think its boring! They hammered all these security rules, and rules for posting, rules for everything, which has turned out to be a huge joke! How can someone be deleted continuously and still keep coming back?? If they want people to view them seriously, and professionally, then they should be enforcing their rules!! I still visit there occassionally, in hope that maybe something exciting has happened ..... still waiting on that one! I have learnt it is not all negative here, and I enjoy the discussions and debates. Sometimes it can get a bit ... over the top ...but at least it's interesting! :)
