Smokin Joe

Bencher
Only just got to watch the game this morning,(work commitments on weekend and busy yesterday)and whilst it is disappointing to lose 38-12 at home to Tigers, after seeing the game I am not convinced that it is all over.(no,not smokin....)I am not convinced that it is sack Barrett time,I am not convinced that the side is divided and I am not convinced that the side is crap.
The forward pack I have no real problems with,I would start Sipley and play AFB off the bench as I am not sold on Perrett and with no Lussick we probably need AFB off the bench. There was no ball for the first 18 minutes and after doing nothing but tackle AFB and Taupau were gassed and Barrett pulled them off, twice there were lazy covering efforts(from Jake first and Taupau second, one led to a break and the other a try) but the problem was not with the forwards.
The halves for me were not a problem,I prefer Hastings(but that ship looks to have sailed)but I can't see the issue with Croker in that game.He defended well,he backed up well and he only got the occasional chance to kick with the side having no ball,he put in a beautiful kick down the left 2 metres out from their line when the forwards needed a breather and he put in a lovely little chip near their line which came down just before the line and resulted in them knocking it on.
The problem for me was Turbo and Uate, there is no other way to say it was anything less than disgraceful from both of them.Tom is great when things are in attack mode, but when we are struggling and you need the guy to stand up at the back,he goes missing big time, and Uates efforts were sxxxhxxxe.Tom was nowhere to be seen when the first try was scored off a kick,he did not go to ground after a bomb and got bundled out,he dropped a ball in front of our line and he did not get low and stop the dwarf Brooks from barging over.He also should have been covering Thompson in the second half when Marshall stepped him but was lethargic.Uates hands were just poor all game, the 2 of them continually gifted the Tigers possession and position all the first half and Uates' drop at the start of the second half gifted them another try just after the break.
For me it is not over yet,but Uate has to be dropped and Tom needs to be put on notice by Barrett,I would like to see Matt Wright on the wing for Uate and Tom Wright on the bench as a warning to Tom and cover for other scenarios.
The 3 bull**** penalties in the first 5 minutes were a joke and really stuffed us to begin with,it is interesting that after that the penalties dried up when the Tigers got to a lead.

Great Post Smokin. The errors from Turbo, Uate and to a lesser extent Perrett were diabolical. I actually don't think Tom was fit. His defence and positional play is no where what is required for Origin. In games where we dominate possession AFB is unstoppable however he was gassed after 15 minutes last week.

Tom seemed to be up everyone except himself . It was a very ordinary performance from him . Uate has to go as he has dropped ball in 3 games that i know that have proven costly .

I hope Uate is dropped Brad. He is in a big rut and to be honest i cant see him coming out of it. He has a massive target on his back. However, if Baz sees Matty Wright as our only option as a utility I fear that we will be stuck with Uate until Tafua is back.

Great post Smokin, i agree with all of the above. The forwards were gassed because we had no ball for 18 minutes! crazy.

It all came from that nothing penalty when we had them belted on their 30 metre line. From there, we didn't touch the ball again for 50 tackles!

Like i said before, we are a team that need to start well and get some possession, if you don't touch the ball for almost 20 minutes, pretty much game over.

The problem with dropping Uate is that no one is gunning for his spot.

If we had a player in reggies whose form was irresistible, then dropping him would be an option.
Sorry mate, just edited it,hit the wrong button(did not mean to post dummy spit) lol.

Yeah @Smokin Joe I watched the game and have been thinking where do we go from here since. I'm not in the sack barret camp either...yet, but what if he does his usual and picks Uate this week? Don't know about you but I'd be fast losing confidence that's for sure!

I wouldn't want to have him sacked based on picking Uate...but if he does then Uate better repay the faith.(Barrett did drop Brown and Winterstein this year...)I just look at the mess he seems to have to deal with, but yeah, when the trigger needs to be pulled then do it,and it seems to be getting to that point with a couple of them....

Smokin stop making sense!!!! .This is ST's doom and gloom is the new black here !.

Agree with everything you said. And I think ,although I am not 100% sold him ,but Croker in a team that was flogged played ok and maybe starting to turn the corner a little all be it slowly .Would still love us to pick up an experienced 5/8 ,I think Carney for cheap dollars would be the go ,but maybe that ship has sailed as well once Greenburg gives him the old Matt Lodge eye balling.

For me I would like to see if the Roosters would part with M.Cornish or the Bulldogs with M.Frawley, neither are world beaters but play an organizing type role with some experience. If it was even mentioned that we were looking at Carney he would be stamped never to play again...

Perrett is dreadful at the moment and Sipley would be better

Barrett will not put Sipley and Paseka in the same team at the moment as he doesn't want two rookies in his team
