More excuses for Barrett

Manly coach Trent Barrett operating with $2m of talent missing

Manly coach Trent Barrett is fighting with one hand tied behind his back. The Sea Eagles will head to Townsville this week with a squad stripped of more than $2 million worth of talent.

A trip to Townsville is daunting at the best of times. Try heading there with nearly one-third of your salary cap either retired, injured or suspended.

Fk off with the endless excuses for the coach.

Winners just get stuff done regardless.
Losers hold on to the reasons why they lost and blame everyone but themselves.

It's becoming apparent which camp T.Barrett is in.

Yeh but it's true. That could be Tamou and Scott.

Look, I think the same as many on this forum of Trent, but even the best coach would struggle.

You go into a game with excuses, it's already holding a white flag.
This is known as a defeatist attitude
Should be more about an opportunity for these new blokes to force their way into the team with massive efforts.
Minus Scott, Coote , Winterstein and likely Taumoloulo...there's 2 million of Cows out also.
Difference is , Green will have the replacements playing out of their skins to prove themselves...as it should be....

Like Cleary at the Panthers a few years ago ?

Considering that the Storm liked to do it being a couple million OVER (plus how many other teams have been over the cap recently), being a couple behind is probably a legit handicap. Except on these forums. Here's it's "not Manly" or some bull****.

Why the hell did Manly hire trent barrett in the first place. He was untested at first grade level and any coach can do well with the lower grades at penrith. Whoever made the decision to hire trent barrett should be sacked.

He didn't do well with the lower grades at the riff.

Yeah, but he didn't do well in the Penrith lower grades did he. They won the U/20's GF on either side of his year coaching them. The year he was coach (2014) they missed the finals.

I still can't get this nagging feeling that Gus Gould realised that Barrett wasn't a coach, but he didn't want to sack him because they're mates.

I think he saw the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. By singing Barrett's praises to Bozo, he found a way to get rid of him while also keeping him with a job, and at the same time he sticks it to Manly by lumbering us with a guy who wasn't going to be a success.

Now, that may sound far fetched, but just look at Barrett's results as a coach both in the U/20's and first grade.

U/20's
2014 - Penrith - P 24, W 12, L 11, D 1 - 9th (were the reigning premiers)

NRL
2016 - Manly - P 24, W8, L 16 - 13th
2017 - Manly - P 2, W 0, L 2 - 15th

I think that Barrett has been up against it in his time at the club but that being said I am struggling to see any real improvement or desire within this team.
This weeks selections were just bewildering (sorry just like it as a word). How you can go into the modern game with a bench like that wreaks of inexperience and being in over your head. Whilst I am not a fan of Lewis Brown I can see his utility value and this was the week to use him as the utility and put in another big man. How you pick both Brown and Cullen is beyond me. It's either one or the other.
Team selections are really staring to hurt. Hopefully the inclusion of Lussick and Lane this week will alleviate some of the pressure but changes still need to be made. My number one change would be Winterstein. In a week when it was stated by the coach that all 17 players would need to put in this guy comes up with 3 hit ups for 28 meters.
Find the bloke in the Blacktown team with the most mongrel and give him a run. That is what this team is missing.
