Isn't it part of the broadcast deal that there is a Qld team playing every Friday night live FTA on Channel 9 ? No wonder the Broncos and Titans dominate the Friday night slot given how poorly the Cowgirls are travelling. Another reason that Brisbane have an advantage over most other sides, with FTA exposure guaranteed like that no wonder they have little trouble attracting sponsors. Get News Ltd out of the game and even up the playing field for the rest of the non News owned sides.

I thought if  you play monday , they wont pick you to play on the following friday ??  The fact we copped a heap of Monday games  - and it does rate  - would suggest we have appeal / ratings pull etc....how many games might have been on a friday , except the monday turn around  prevented it ??

From a thread i made a few weeks back:

Its been a pretty hot topic on the website this year with Manly down to play 7 Monday night football games in season 2010. Ive read a lot of topics and articles in relation to Monday night football and what sort of financial effect it has on clubs. A big complaint from Bruno Culln after the Broncos vs Roosters game comes to mind.

Ive put together a little statistics table for Monday night games too see just who is coping the raw end of the deal to play Monday nights and just how badly its effecting each club.

Columns are broken into number of Monday games played, number of Monday games at home, total attendance to MNF home games, average crowd attendance 2010 and + or - difference of Monday vs average games.

Roosters - 5 (Home - 2) (6,478 / 14,238 / -7,760)* -54.5%
Parramatta - 4 (Home - 2) (26,299 / 17,366 / -8,433) -24.28%
St George - 2 (Home - 2) (12,974 / 16,882 / -3,908)* -23.14%
Gold Coast - 3 (Home - 1) (13,235 / 17,202 / -3,967) -23.06%
Brisbane - 2 (Home - 1) (26,486 / 34,331 / -7,845) -22.85%
Melbourne - 2 (Home - 2) (24,620 / 15,271 / -5,922) -19.38%
Tigers - 2 (Home - 2) ( 29,776 / 17,966 / -6,156) -17.13%
Newcastle - 2 (Home - 2) (22,741 / 13,374 / -4,007) -14.98%
Penrith - 4 (Home - 1) (11,278 / 13,227 / -1,949) -14.73%
Manly - 6 (Home - 2) (26,218 / 13,802 / -1,386) -5.02%
Cronulla - 1 (Home - 1) (10,741 / 11,120 / -379) -3.40%
Souths - 4 (Home - 3) (55,267 / 16,586 / +5,509) +11.07%
Canberra - 4 (Home - 3) (25,394 / 11,972 / +1,450)* +6.05%
Bulldogs - 4 (Home - 1)*
Cowboys - 4 (Home - 0)
Warriors - 0

What interests me about these figures is the NRL compensate any club hosting a Monday night game with $40,000. If you look at clubs like the Roosters, Parramatta, St George this $40,000 comes in compensating these clubs at $5.15, $9.48 and $10.08 per head that they lose by hosting a Monday night game.

This raises the question. Why are we playing Monday night games? I assume the answer was to create an extra time slot at the last TV negotiations to add weight to a bigger deal. Unfortunately at the current rate of compensation to clubs the only entity this agreement is helping is the NRL itself. Lining its own pockets at the expense of most clubs.

However, on the other end of the scale, clubs like our own who do draw close to their average on Monday nights profit at a rate of $57 per missing head probably far outweighing the amount of money the club would expect to make on any other regular season game day. Clubs like Souths and Canberra so far this season wont register a relative financial loss from playing Monday night football this season.

Some interesting stats with winning after Monday night games. With the total % of wins at less than 50% after playing a Monday night game, the teams that do win have a better strike rate with a shorter turn around. I am very surprised to see that.

Do the Warriors get FTA in NZ ?
[/quote]

Yes they do, but barely worth mentioning really

The set up over here is that Sky TV (Our version of Fox) shows every NRL game live, have the Footy Show, all the fox shows etc

Outside of that, they own a channel called Prime which is free to air, and they flick a replay of the Warriors games on there at about 11pm-midnight the day they play.
The only other free to air League in NZ is Maori TV showing all of our games free to air on a Monday night at 9.30pm
