Sad news, I had recently concluded that Robbo has been one of my fav's of the recent era.

I agree with one and all, it is sad to see him go but good for him to set up for his future after footy.

Michael Robertson to leave for London Harlequins

Manly’s three try 2008 grand final star Michael Robertson will leave the club at the end of the current season to link with English Super League
Club the London Harlequins.

The 28 year old winger has played 206 games in the NRL – 147 with the Manly Sea Eagles and 59 with the Canberra Raiders. He has scored 83 tries and been of the most consistent players to ever wear the maroon and white.

Robertson joined Manly in 2006 after making his debut in the NRL with Canberra in 2001.

The specialist left winger said he will satisfy a life long ambition to have a season in the English Super League.

“A lot of my mates have done it and loved the experience so when the opportunity to give it a shot came up I grabbed it. I want to go over there whilst I’m enjoying my football and hopefully with another premiership under my belt. It will be difficult to leave Manly where I have loved my time and made lot of friends – especially my team mates,” Robertson said.

Coach Des Hasler said Robertson had been a mighty clubman for the Sea Eagles.

“From the day he arrived at the club he has been a pleasure to coach. He will give tremendous value to any team he plays in. I thought he was great at fullback last Sunday in difficult circumstances against the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane,” Hasler said.

“We wish him well but he has a vital role to play for Manly in the weeks ahead in the final series. These are the games when he is at his best,” Hasler said.

Sea Eagles Football Manager Steve Gigg said Robertson was a key member of the Sea Eagles senior playing group.

“He has shown outstanding leadership qualities and is an integral link between the players and football management. The Harlequins are getting a quality person as well as a quality player,” Gigg said.

Robertson will play in his sixth consecutive final series with the Sea Eagles starting at the Sydney Football Stadium on Saturday in the first round of the 2011 finals series.

When it comes to reliability there is none better than Robbo. He gave us security that you wouldn't even dream to gamble. I really hope the young guys come along in the off season. Looking at our options we'll have some tall, strong and fast options for next year

Good luck to Robbo. He has been a champion for us and one of the most underated players in the NRL. This day was always going to come - either he or Wolfman would move on. Hopefully this will now squash the rumours of Wolf going back to Parra or to the Sharks. Its fantastic that Robbo has got himself a UK deal and once again we have another Manly player that chooses Super League rather than playing with another NRL club.

I would like to think that robbo made the choice to leave instead of getting pushed out.

We probably could not offord what others were offering and I geuss on the bright side it frees up some money to spend on the others to resign the likes of buhrer and co.

But as previously mentioned it does leave us a bit short on wingers for next year. As good as wolfman is, he is injury prone and we will need 3 wingers like we have all year this year.
