I agree he is probably signed, sealed and delivered to the Chooks, but...Gus saying he won't be at the Dogs is nothing to hang your hat on. He has form with this sort of thing. I recall something along the lines of 'Trent Barrett will be coaching the Bulldogs long after I have left' before sacking him a couple of weeks later.

Gus just doesn't want to be part of the media conjecture for fear it will distract his players, i.e. Toby Sexton, etc. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that Gus signs DCE and spins a yard about circumstances changing and an opportunity arising....blah, blah, blah. He is a spin doctor and not the least bit concerned with credibility when it comes to the ruthless pursuit of excellence.
It could also mean Gus knows he’s signed elsewhere and he is setting up his usual “we weren’t chasing him anyway” line,to make him/Dogs look like they weren’t knocked back

Most posters are forgetting that had the club known DCE wanted to leave they wouldn't have allowed Jamie Humphries to go to Souffs. I understand Humphries was on $180K a season. He was a must-have bargain.
The club must have been blindsided by DCE... or can someone explain a different scenario?
Imo the club was trying to do all they could to free up space to meet the demands of DCE. I have a feeling that when Turbo asked to reduce his contact it even had something to do with it. If that’s the case we did try anything but as we can see loyalty can’t be purchased. Manly can spot quality (Hynes, Humphreys, Fainu) I’m putting my faith in Walsh to be our long term half. In the interim I’m excited to see where we go.

Humphreys manager had a bit to do with why he left Manly,as well

LOL

From the 3 examples u gave, Manly may be able to spot talent, but cannot develop and keep them 😆

What team will Walsh end up playing for?

At the point of time these players were coming through we had a #7 at the club that demanded top dollar. Now that that issue has been resolved we can look at keeping the younger players around and nuture them into future stars.

I also think it’s a good thing for the club, people like yourself are obviously dissatisfied with the decisions from management and they have already expressed their desire to keep the turbos in the club forever. I hope it’s something they continue to focus on long term now that they can see the backlash of fans/members. A prime example of this would be to continue developing our local talent.

Katoa left panthers, Pezet has a clause that if Hughes re-signs at storm he can negotiate with other clubs. It happens mate, we had the QLD halfback of course younger talent wanted to look elsewhere. Just makes people like Lehi more special when they choose to stick around and back themselves behind first class talent

As soon as Walsh plays a good half a season in first grade (hopefully) the vultures from other clubs will be everywhere saying he is underpaid. His manager will then agitate for more money & we will have to accomodate or have a disgruntled player. Unfortunately, this is how the NRL operates.

I will be more pissed if we actually resign him for a high price after he has whole heartedly driven his price up to the tilt.
**** him, that won’t happen but if it does , that’s me done with being a member , and I’d let them know with all barrels.

I would be shattered if the club back flipped after this ****show.

Time to move on

Back to the thread topic.

The more I think about it, the more I think Penn and Mestrov shouldn't be linked in the question and it's because of the texts to NRL 360 coming from both of them.

I really do think Mestrov has done a great job and has barely put a foot wrong. Based on what I've seen, I can't imagine him doing something as wreckless and image destroying as that text.

The fact that they both sent them says to me that Penn ordered it, Mestrov disagreed, Penn insisted but unsure whether he could trust Mestrov (because Penn trusts no one), Penn sent his own.

Conjecture, but you know I'm right.

Everything is conjecture, but we aren’t dumb it’s not that hard to work out what’s at play here

I was just going to post the same thing. Why would we move him on if we thought DCE wanted to go 12 months ago?
Remember too that this is the same guy who jumped ship to the Titans only to backflip on them ('See ya Manly..... oh wait a minute, more money? I was only kidding. Of course I'm staying!'). As much as I have admired his play over the years, I've always felt he serves only himself & no one else enters his mind when making decisions, even if those decisions will impact others.

He has been a great player to the club but I don't think his heart was ever in Manly.
From day one it's been about the money, He was off to the Titans all those years ago.
I remember him and his partner in the media visiting other clubs looking for his next contract, they seem to love the attention of it all.

If he had honoured the Titans contract someone else would have come along and offered a bigger contract a few years later which he would have accepted.

There was talk 15 years ago his team mates didn't really like him, they were all taking under's to play together but he wanted whatever he could get which didn't sit well.

His manager has probably been in his ear more concerned about his cut telling him we can get you decent coin elsewhere once retired. Most likely end up at the Roosters and a contract similar to what we would offer but a coaching role for 5 years on big dollars in retirement.

I would have like to see him as a one club player but that won't be happening, I don't see him turning up on old boys days in 10-15 years.
