Most posters are forgetting that had the club known DCE wanted to leave they wouldn't have allowed Jamie Humphries to go to Souffs. I understand Humphries was on $180K a season. He was a must-have bargain.
The club must have been blindsided by DCE... or can someone explain a different scenario?

I was just going to post the same thing. Why would we move him on if we thought DCE wanted to go 12 months ago?

Exactly.. I think it's pretty easy to see that DCE had not only blindsided the fans and club but also his team mates

Even as one of DCEs staunchest supporters over the years his latest fiasco reminds me of the time around his back flip and all the talk from different quarters ( that i totally shrugged off, as I'm sure many other Manly people did)
But looking back now look at this list of players who are said to be "off" DCE-

Just reverting to his earlier assessment of DCE. The one he held during the Barrett era.

The screaming eagles podcast did a good breakdown of what happened monday, seems there is fault/lies on both sides to me, but mainly cherry and his team.

They pointed out cooper cronk did a similar thing when he left melbourne, but instead of going on a tv show he had a presser with the club and both sides were informed of the situation. Daly going to the media first turned this into a clown show for sure.

I bet my left nut he has agreed to terms with the bulldogs. Why go on 100% footy to break the news unless one of the panelists organised it and could control the narrative? Why not just hold a press conference?

DCE has already signed a deal somewhere, or he hasn't

I'd be gobsmacked if he didn't have a least a strong indication that a club will offer him a deal, especially given he's admitted talking to a couple of clubs.

One of the only reasons I can think of for announcing leaving Manly the way he did was to generate massive publicity and maximise interest from potential suitors. Which wouldn't be necessary or probably even desirable if he'd already signed (apart from the fact he'd be lying about it, but let's ignore that for now).

He specifically says he doesn't want to be rushed in deciding his future. Makes sense.

And this also means plenty of clubs who for example can't afford him ...or don't want to put their current players offside by admitting it... now have plenty of time to consider moves to make space in their cap.

Could backfire, of course, if DCE got a career ending injury, but he's probably quite genuine in saying if it all ends this year he's content with that.

Bottom line, Dogs are out of the running .. for now, but things can change

I agree he is probably signed, sealed and delivered to the Chooks, but...Gus saying he won't be at the Dogs is nothing to hang your hat on. He has form with this sort of thing. I recall something along the lines of 'Trent Barrett will be coaching the Bulldogs long after I have left' before sacking him a couple of weeks later.

Gus just doesn't want to be part of the media conjecture for fear it will distract his players, i.e. Toby Sexton, etc. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that Gus signs DCE and spins a yard about circumstances changing and an opportunity arising....blah, blah, blah. He is a spin doctor and not the least bit concerned with credibility when it comes to the ruthless pursuit of excellence.
