imagine Wayne Pearce, Mal Meninga, Jamie Lyon, Max krilich, Steve Mortimer, Andrew Johns, Alfie Langer, Terry Lamb, or even players that did leave their clubs like Ricky Stuart, Greg Alexander, Brad Fittler just to name a few drops in the ocean....announced they were leaving the club like how hero DCE.

I recall Willie Mason and Marty Taupau mentioning how DCE would pull meetings at the club to announce things about himself, and players would be sitting there thinking wtf?? lol

No wonder Des left this place. A sh*tshow circus this club at times.
Feisty and inaccurate you are.

To each their own...
I find them boring. A bit like comedians who resort to swearing because they think that gets them laughs. I prefer to appreciate genuine talent.
I didn't mean it like that i thing they're clowns. The way the whole thing is done is hilarious is what I meant. Hilariously stupid 🤣 appreciate away my good man or woman

When Chez signed for 2024 and 2025 the contract was agreed in April of 2022… more than 18 months before the start of the new contract…

If the club were genuinely interested in resigning Chez than there is no way it gets to almost April of the final year… I don’t buy it, there had to be a resistance to either the dollar amount or the contract term…

What if the club simply decided to let his current contract to expire without renewing it?

Would that justify DCE booking a press conference on 100% footy without letting the club know?

Apparently there was no contract offered at 12pm Monday like was reported. Manly never offered a contract in Nov or Dec, I think this is what sparked DCE off as he was not wanted.

If this was just a one off blip from DCE then OK but he has form here. He didn’t just talk to Gold Coast in 2015, he literally signed a contact to leave and was given the first $1M contract at the time which would have given his already inflated ego a big boost.

The way that played out always left a sour taste in my mouth. I always supported and respected him because he wore the jersey and was the club captain but i never supported him like i did Tooves, Snake, Gifty etc

I hope there is no twist where he negotiates to stay, think at this point we need to move fwd with youth and balance our Salary Cap.

You’d think that 10yrs would have made him more mature and wanting to ensure his legacy would remain positive but this is what he’ll be remembered for, very sad for the young fans that didn’t get to experience what we did back in 2015 and supported him.

The club might have made mistakes but this is one i’ll side with them, no player is bigger than the club not even the selfish DCE

Why would we have offered him a contract in December when he told the club his mind was made that he was going to retire or play in the super league? 😅 it’s not Mestrov or Penn’s fault he lied to their faces & was secretly planning on staying in the NRL at a different team.

Somebody's lying...reminds me of the Chris Issaks song of the same name. Great song.
I don't know about lying, just business stupidity on the club's part.
My take on this is that DCE, last year was seeking another two year deal to finish up, but the club was only entertaining a one year deal with a one year option in the club's favour, DCE saw this as an insult.
DCE management which also manages several Roosters probably puts it out there that DCE could entertain leaving if offerred a two year deal, naturally a club like the Rooster would be willing to take him on, especially seeing that Sam Walker would be missing the better part of this year through injury, the retirement of Luke Keary, and also the loss of Joey Manu, something they didn't see coming, DCE would be a vital missing piece in a Roosters outfit
DCE, last year asked to be released from this years contract, which must mean that there's a club/s out there that is willing to take a gamble on him, something our dumb management wouldn't, and in reality it's not a gamble, they would get two great years out of him and then he finishes, it's not like signing up Ash Taylor long term and hoping for the best.
DCE, during the off season tells the club that he won't be playing with us next year as he doesn't
know what his plans are for next year and Manly said OK, well wait until round six and then make you an offer, if no other club has made you an offer, another insult.
Even though DCE may not have actually signed up, it's very hard to agree to terms with, say, a guy like Nick Politis, or Phil Gould for that matter, and then do a backflip.
This is something that should have been thrashed out indoors, not to be blindsided on national television, this is the first time I've ever seen a player go on national TV to say he's leaving.
When it comes to contracts DCE is all about DCE, no matter what, we all know that, and the club knew that also, and any perceived low offer would be like putting out fire with gasoline.
We lost Des Hasler the first time the same way, and it probably cost us a GF appearance, he was on $400k with us and Dogs sign him up for$750, as usual our club just couldn't see the big picture.

Maybe when he was told to go and see what he could get, that itself is an insult

Well put together summation Pete.
Just think the Club was trying to save some coin on Cherry's next deal. Only trouble is, Cherry didn't see it that way. Man, and what a s... storm we have now.

My undertstanding is, he asked in 2023 to be released for 24 and 25. Get a nice 4 year massive deal, as if a million a year isn't enough

^^^Or maybe the Manly version of the ‘big picture’ is a post-DCE environment. One way or another, he cannot play on forever.

This is one way to remove his insincere, vaguely repellent presence from the club for good.

Inadvertently or otherwise.

We all know DCE by now. it's all about DCE when it comes to contracts, this doesn't come as a surprise, just that club management was so naive.
