Per NRL360:
  • In December, prelim talks started with a 1 year contract and 2 year option in favour of the club. DCE said unsure if retiring or going overseas.
  • Manly respected his decision and backed off talks. Some informal chats occurred and in those, there was an agreement to revisit after Round 6 to see how DCE was holding up.
  • DCE blindsides Penn & Mestrov last night and announces he’s leaving the club. They had no clue.

If they were playing hardball they messed with the wrong guy dce is a smart as they come.It had to have been penns & maestrov.

This whole idea that dce is some super brain is ludicrous.

Being a verbose, single minded money hungry egotist and paying some one 10 % of your salary to act at your behest to satisfy said character dos not a genius make .

Again, I do not begrudge him for leaving , I detest the way he has left

Lacks class, respect and pretty basic decency

Let me get this right.

We didn't low ball him

He has no problem with Penn,Mestrov or Seibs

He is not sure that he will play next season but if he does he is sure it will not be with us

DCE make it make sense

If he go's to the dolphins fine but if he as we all suspect he heads for the roosters or dogs than **** him.
There is no way he is going to the Dogs
Rorters or the Phins

Longest ever Captain. Most capped player.

But I have a feeling will be the most hated Manly legend of all time.

History will write its own tail.
Nah… Des f*cked us straight after winning a GF and we bought him back… Foz didn’t even use lube when he left for the eels and we bought him back…
Even Dale Shearer back in the day did us dirty…
Time heals…

Over the last 10 years our club has stuffed up contract negotiations more than any other, even Parra.

The common denominator is Penn. Mestrov seems like a good operator, but he has to do what the boss says, like those before him.

Mestrov will probably be the next to go.
Look what happened when they signed him to that lucrative contract when they thought they’d be smart in luring cheaper buys to the club only to find those negotiations fell flat.
The club is all about budget buys hoping they could make something of there some what potential.
Why did they bring back Waddell and Chee Kam?
Humphries was the biggest stuff up is a great example.
I’m a bit perplexed in the direction there going in.

Mark my words , the Rorters deal already done and probably has been for months.

The current charade is just that , a charade.

Still conjecture mind you as I have zero knowledge BUT ain’t no way he’s going to the Dolphins.

And there’s only two clubs with unlimited funds in Sydney so the only other possibility is he’s playing off Roosters & Bulldogs.

But the reason I think it’s the Rorters is it’ll be a package deal,

2 years playing contract
5 years specialist coach contract
5 years Chan 9 commentator contract

All set up by Uncle Nick

Now I suppose Laundy could gift him a $10 million dollar hotel 😂😂😂

I get why you're leaning towards the Roosters, and @TJ55 says it won't be the Dogs. However, I'm still a bit suspicious about the Dogs as it was interesting what Gus said on 100% Footy. After DCE made his announcement and answered questions from the panel, Gus turned to him and said from a club administrator's view he thought he was being professional about it all and basically complimented him on how he was handling it (lol). My immediate reaction was, has Gus already wooed him to the Dogs.

You are most likely correct though they not long signed Toby Rodwell for four years and have Sam Walker, unless they are looking at potentially offloading Walker.

Rodwell is a quality prospect and if he gets a chance this season he will have a few talking.

I haven’t heard any talk but I wouldn’t rule Parra out.

I just finished watching tonight's NRL 360 and I may end up eating my own words, I would be absolutely gobsmacked if he ended up at Belmore, i still back the Roosters though, people keep saying home at Redcliffe but he seems very happy here on the northern beaches with his family. Time will tell i guess

to disrespect the club and we fans by declaring he'll not play for Manly beyond this season when -- he claims -- he's had no approaches from another club, has turned me against him.
Why announce it on national TV? He should, at least, have had the decency to keep discussions private.
In my eyes he has damaged his fine reputation, and if I've got the 'facts' wrong then he needs to clarify the situation quickly or else a large portion of the fans at Brookie on Sunday will be booing, not cheering, him.
This is what irks me the most...declaring emphatically on national TV he won't play for Manly beyond this season, instead of advising the fans first, whilst acknowledging that many Manly fans will be upset. Of course we are! Yes, he should've kept discussions private, like Manly did apparently, and announced his intentions properly and in a more respectful manner. I won't blame the fans at Brookie for booing him.
