Max Krilich

A good mate who runs a Central Coast rugby league team, had Max and Tommy Raudonikas as guest speakers at a footy function 3 weeks ago.
He sat with him for hours after the function having drinks and reckons the stories on and off field are funny as....Max is just 1 of the boys with zero big head attitude.
He did say the game had taken effect to the point he could not even lift his arms properly due to shoulder problems that have caught up and confidently said - Manly as a team in 2017 - is getting its belief and culture back off the field and this would show as 2017 went on...and forget the name Lottoland....will always be Brooky to Max and was a smart and much needed move.
This was the Friday a day before the start of the last 3 wins.

Heads up, both Max & Tommy are doing a road show at a pub in Newtown (my son is the Chef there) to talk about "THAT GAME" between Manly & Newtown. When I find out the date I let you guys know. Reckon it will be a hoot.

BTW had the pleasure to play golf with Max. Crickie he hits his 2 iron further than most pros on the circuit when they use their 1 wood.

I think you need to review your 'reality'

I apologise in advance, but Maxy would have gone just as good today, and maybe better, just like Roy Bull would have.
Sorry, I meant killed as in literally!
He played for Australia and I watched his whole career. Back then it was a different game, and he was a real hooker.
If he was coached and trained like todays players, of course he would succeed. He was the best hooker going around with Piggins and co.
I wasn't knocking him at all, I love chatting to him back at the Leaguesy...top bloke too

Was the always the first to complain about only 2 of the showers working and no hot water in the old stand at Brookie ... "well fix it you lazy bastard" says Biscuits. Max was a plumber as were two others in the grades.

Max would be a champion in any era, it was the character of the man that mattered, men followed him.

According to anecdotes Max's plumbing skills didn't come cheap.

He could scoot along, break a tackle, swerve and (from memory) could step too.

Look at the first two tests against GB in 1978 for proof.

I remember him making some big metres vs Parramatta at Lottovale in 1981. Probably the best on the ground and he displayed his goalkicking skills too.
I was there tezza to it was virtually length of the field try.We smacked them that day t😵mg i was in year 10 high school that year.

So was I. I was 20 at the time. He had a sensational game.

That was the day that Manly beat the Faecals in reserve grade by a point, after being behind something like 19-10 with 2-3 minutes to go. Mike Eden put the icing on the cake with his fabulous goalkicking.

He was clearly a better all round player than Peponis. George of course is a doctor and in the inferiority complex dominated world of RL administration (circa 1978-80 - nothing much has changed, they're still scared of the AFL) that was enough to see Max sidelined for a few years as an Australian rep.

The third try in this is max to the max. Manly on fire that year, 1982.

Thanks for posting this as a enjoyed every second. Some off them tries are just awesome, but watching all the older guys running around was a trip down memory lane.

Max is a legend and the memories he gave us in the 1970s and early 80s are priceless.

The courage he showed in grand finals in 76 and 78 when he was ironed out illegally and still stayed out there and battled on will never be forgotten.

My funniest memory of him took place in 1981, when we were playing the whinging worms at Brooky. Manly had the game under control and Max took an intercept when Parra were attacking our 22. He had clear daylight in front of him and the only player in pursuit was racehorse Brett Kenny. It appeared that the inevitable would happen and Kenny would catch Max pretty comfortably, but never underestimate the guile of Max who in an effort to avoid Kenny, he slowed down a bit and Kenny dived and caught fresh air and Max ran the extra 15 metres or so and died over the try line. The funniest thing I remember is Max and Kenny laughing at each other as it was so comical.

Those memories are what make it all the worth while.
