Matty Ballin

This is what really grinds my gears...

Penn all-but blames the GIft situation on Toovey, and uses it in-part to terminate early. Results themselves are clearly not the issue given the very obvious injury crisis we've copped since Round 1. Add to that some of the senior players getting their precious knickers in a twist over player retention and Penn sides with them over their lack of effort in the backend of 2014.

Yet those same players had no qualms about seeing off other long-term players like Menzies, Rose and Kite over recent seasons. The selfishness is clear, but Penn is making it about Toovey, instead of acting like a leader and putting the focus on the players own efforts.

In every way, Penn's explanations contain gaps in credibility you can drive a team bus through. Retention? Gift is Toovey's fault yet it's Penn's own fault he ended up paying massive overs to retain DCE after walking from the all-but done negotiations of last year. The only reason that actually makes sense in this whole debacle and one that the media have avoided following up on specifically, is petty political plays around the revenge and appeasement of Z.

It is an absolute disgrace and the only way I would spend anymore than a basic membership on the club now (instead of the few hundred on out-of-town m'ship) is to see the back of Z from any official capacity within the club. No doubt membership took a hit this year from last, and at this rate the club will struggle to even reach current numbers, next season. And they have nobody but themselves to blame.

Well said. Forget about getting anywhere near this year's membership numbers the club will be luckily to crack 10,000 in 2016 with a lot of these being the cheaper kids, baby & pet members lol.

I'm split sorry, I want him there in some capacity only if he can share the hooking role . Wasn't there games when we shook our head about how slow we were out of dummy half . Yes I know ballin signed a contract and I can understand him sticking to his guns but management made a big blue signing him for 2 more years. He is Mr nice guy but we need pace around the ruck and unfortunately matt has lost that.

Ballin keen to stick around

Matt Ballin isn’t about to go quietly after being shown the door at Manly and is set to enlist the Rugby League Players Association to put pressure on the Sea Eagles.

Signed to a new two-year deal earlier this season, Ballin has suddenly been told he is unwanted in part of the coup that claimed the scalp of coach Geoff Toovey.

Both Toovey and Ballin are one-club men who are adored by the Sea Eagles fans and their sacking hasn’t gone down well.

Ballin and his manager George Mimis are fuming at the club’s backflip over his future and have gone to the RLPA for help.

Ballin can stay for the next two years and get his contract money - but Manly are likely to make it clear to him that he will spend the entire two seasons playing in the NSW Cup. 😡

It’s shabby treatment - and Ballin may be best off just looking for a fresh start to finish his career.

G'day all,I must admit that I am surprised at the lack of reaction from whats left of last years cabal of troublemakers to this decision.Surely Matt is entitled to the same sort of '"support"that they offered on behalf of their perceived disrespecting of Glen?Whats changed fellas,as far as I can see a long time loyal servant and teammate is being shafted in the most disgraceful way and not a peep.
cheers mike
Maybe he wasn't part of the clique?

Matt is truly the victim of Foran's performance this season and a weaker forward pack as well.

We haven't lost quality with Matt. With Foran being nowhere near as good as he used to be and the forwards looking soft more often than not, Matt has become a scapegoat for the team lacking potency in attack.

Our style of play will certainly change with Api playing next season. But make no mistake, Matt is not to blame for how badly we have gone this season.

Foran turns up, the forwards dig in and it's just like old times with Matty.

Like Tooves, he is very capable but is being ushered out the door regardless.

And on a side note, which player is always last to leave the field because he walks around taking photos with fans, talking to fans, and generally just being the nicest guy on the planet? Yup Matty Ballin. So it's no wonder that the fans are sticking by him, he's like Tooves, whenever he speaks its 'the fans this and the fans that'. LEGEND.

Foran had a cracker this week and last. I actually had weird regretful feeling sneaking into my mindset.

Damn it !!!

Oh, and ive decided Matts a big part of next years plans, so everyone can relax now, he'll be all good in Eagles colours !!!

He was last off tonight, just behind Foran. He even stuck around when the kids had run on to the field. At that stage it was just him and Donny Singe who were out in the open.

Just absolute a class above. I helped Mark Bryant with something, and Matty Ballin / Josh Perry gave me a flippin fully signed jersey last year (signed by everyone).

Put pictures up of it before

What legends !!!

Ballin needs to move on

Matt Ballin wants to fight hard next season to retain his hooking spot, despite being told he can look elsewhere by Manly.

The more I hear though is that Ballin won't be used in first grade.

He may not even be considered.

As harsh as that decision may be in some people's eyes, I hope he cops the hint and picks up a gig elsewhere rather than languish in NSW Cup.

Matty does not need a 'hint' when he was already told outright that his re-signing was just a whim.😡 Moving a Family of 5, with school age kiddies is not easy @

Fight The Manly Machine , Matty!

I don't like how they are trying to move ballin on. A player associated with 08/11 wins, great in defense, low error rate, and quality service from dummy half. Offloading a one club player who has plenty left is bad business just remember what happened with glenn stewart.

The difference here is that Zorba is not in Matty's corner.

I do like how the Lurker (who is supposed to post rumours), just posts opinion when he doesn't have any rumours to report. Yeah we'd all like Matty B to stay and go out on his terms but I think the issue is as simple as based on the style of footy Barrett probably wants to play, we need hookers who can get out and move and that just isn't Ballin's natural game at the moment. So is it worth his time to toil away in NSW Cup when he could probably fetch a starting gig somewhere.

Was it Kelly who signed him for another two years?

Clearly Fulton is now in charge so I wonder why we still have Kelly as his job is now redundant
