Matthew Ridge Doco - the memories

Thanks wedgie. Can u pls elaborate for your time poor friends?
Playing FB, Ridge said when he was organising defence & barked at a Manly player they just did what he said & were cool with it.
He thought Manly were a tough, high quality team.

When he arrived at the Warriors & did the same thing, individuals would get sulky & weird, Ridge thought there was a lot of dead wood in the coaching staff, generally unprofessional, at that time.

He also questioned Stacey Jones’s defence, coach Monie’s man management, not at all what he was used to.

Interesting. Thanks mate.

Matthew Ridge has since admitted that he only switched codes for the money.

But honestly, I'm thankful he did. IMO we don't win the 1996 Premiership without him.

Loved him as a player, Sh*t human.

Watching these podcasts reminded me what a tosser he is and you can;t say that about many kiwis. In fact he made John Kirwan seem like a decent bloke.

Handy player though and will always be my fourth favourite Manly fullback behind Wombat, Trbo and Snake.

For a fullback, Ridge wasn't the fastest thing on two legs. I remember Beaver smoking him on a 70 metre run during the World Cup Semi-Final in Huddersfield in 1995 (Sean Hoppe caught him late but got palmed off).

But damn, we haven't had as good a goal kicker since. Halligan and El Masri get all the accolades for being the great goal kickers in the game, but they were not any better than Matthew Ridge. As far as the best goal kickers go, Ridge was every bit their equal.

Hazem El Masri (891 goals @ 81.97%)
Matthew Ridge NRL Overall 1990-1999 80.22%

That's an impressive stat.
