Why do you guys think about this?
Matt playing a back up, utility role for Manly this year. He lives in the area, and wants to play in the NRL.
It's something the club should entertain maybe. Gotta say, his name has been bashed around quite a bit, but the little bugger is all heart.

Please be nice when responding, he does after all have a strong place in our club history.

Worth a trial...if not, why not a trial?

Love the role he played in 2008 - especially a brilliant finals series.
Prefer to leave it there & move foward - if DCE or Foz need backup the kid for the job is Riccardi who has a massive future.
Ox has created great memories at Manly - now its time for the current crop of youngsters to take the team foward.

I was actually thinking a back up to Ballin-definately not in the halves. Dummy half role-sorry, should have clarified.
Much like Toovey in his latter days.

Same deal Quinny - prefer to see young Higgins get a shot before Ox & this Riccardi who plays in the halves is a dynamo & would be a better option off the bench to add impact from dummy half (imo this will happen during 2012).
To put it kindly I think Ox is past his use by date & after seeing him back at Canberra last season it was obvious his best was behind him.

Orford was great for us, so we should hold him in the highest respect. It is a shame his last season was memorable for all the wrong reasons.
I would be more than happy if he renewed his association with the club in some capacity, not necessarily as a player but possibly as a mentor to the Toyota Cup players.

His days in the NRL are over IMO. After what happened last year no club in NRL would take the risk on Ox.

As for a return to Manly, if they didn't bring back Beaver for an encore season there's no way they'd bring the Ox back.

I agree we put the youngsters first-Riccardi is a dynamo. I don't count Canberra, he was injured and had no pre-season + new club-no combinations. If this is his legacy, he will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. Generally, I thought he needed to shift in to the forwards long ago to save his career.
Personally, I think he should give it away, but I would love him to leave the game in better fashion....I guess it's up to him. He is a top fella Ox

Great call Mauler

Also, don't write off Liam Higgins. Kids, 21. Played in the NSW under 21's. Is a specialist Hooker.

Was good while it lasted and you'd never meet a better guy but he was finished at the end of 2009.

This is 2012.

With Joey Johns spending his time in NZ, I'd see no reason why we couldn't offer Ox a Part-time consultancy role in the halves. Lord knows his footballing brain was amazing (don't think he EVER missed the finals). Ok, he lacked execution, but he made up for it in smarts, determination and class.

Add that knowledge base to two individuals that DO have that natural execution, and you'd have a wonderful mix.

The more we surround this team with "names", the better for the future and loyalty to the club.

World Record winning retired halves IS that, and in bucket loads.

Did anyone see Orford play last season for the Raiders?

I know a lot of us have watched the 2008 NRL Grand Final recently, but there is a huge difference between 2008 Orford & 2012 Orford.

A coaching job? Yes, but not to use up the Salary cap on a has been when we are fighting to keep our boys away from catching flea's

He would need a full medical assessment!
I think his groin is gone, hence is restricted for kicking and has lost some pace!! Maybe a year on the sidelines has fixed his problems!!
If it has I think he could be a good back up..
If not he should retire and consider coaching!!
