Lodge being surrounded by guys like Garrick, Turbo 1,2 & 3, DCE, Croker and all the others, hopefully it's an environment of nurture and support maybe, and he might thrive here ?

I like this signing. He is the no nonsense aggressive player we really need. We have too many nice guys at our club and in need of a grub/enforcer type. Adds a different body shape to the prop rotation as well.

Welcome to the life that used to be a Bears supporter. So many talented forwards, but dear god, way, WAY too soft. And that's why they never win anything.

Hmmmm, get what you're saying mate, but for mine, he fits a current hole the team needs. At The Broncos and Warriors, they have / had surplus players playing that same role.

Don't get me wrong, his behaviour off the field (in my opinion) is he's despicable. But then again, after reading AFB domestic violence issues, I was adamant I didn't want him here either.

My HOPE, and it's probably just that - hope, is that the current environment may help him grow a little? That said, I may be clutching at straws, too.

Manly Sea Eagles throw prop Matt Lodge NRL lifeline​

Matt Lodge has accepted a sizeable pay-cut to finish the year on a train-and-trial deal with Manly, his fourth NRL club in just over two years.

The prop forward left the Sydney Roosters last month after being told there was no space for him in 2024 given Jared Waerea-Hargreaves' contract extension and the imminent arrival of premiership winner Spencer Leniu.

Off-contract at season's end, Lodge was expected to see the year out but was permitted an early release after falling out of favour at the selection table.
Lodge's options for a new club appeared limited given his previous history.

The Wests Tigers cut him loose after he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanour reckless assault charge incurred while holidaying in New York in 2015. Lodge threatened to kill a German tourist, assaulted the man who came to her aid and threw a wine bottle at police but avoided jail time.
Lodge's next NRL club Brisbane released him as new coach Kevin Walters began tinkering with the roster in mid-2021.

He was released by the Warriors after expressing concerns with relocating to Auckland once COVID-19 restrictions eased and an alleged falling-out with club owner Mark Robinson.
Lodge will line up for Manly's NSW Cup side Blacktown on Sunday.

The $1,000-per-week train-and-trial deal represents quite the paycut for Lodge, who was reportedly paid $700,000 by the Warriors to leave in mid-2022.

He bolsters a Manly middle rotation that also includes Jake Trbojevic, Josh Aloiai and Taniela Paseka.

I’m no t overjoyed by this signing. I was appalled when he was permitted to play again for the Broncos. He is coming I hope he can buckle down and get the job done.

Train & trial means he can’t play FG unless we have a vacant spot in our top 30, so I assume we’ll be hearing about another player departing the club shortly for Lodge to replace so he can play FG this season?

Either that or Lodge plays for Blacktown for the rest of this year with the intention of coming into our top 30 next year?

I’ve never read as much garbage as I have about Lodge being an ‘enforcer’

An enforcer gets out on the field, runs hard, hits hard and takes no prisoners with his attitude

Stalking females, breaking into apartments and bashing doors in with a young child hiding behind them doesn’t make you an enforcer. Getting baited that bad that you get binned twice and give the crowd the fingers doesn’t make you an enforcer

Congrats Mestrov and co, I’ve barely missed a Manly game in 30 years, as soon as he pulls on the first grade kit I won’t be watching another until the club is rid of him
