Mathematical??

We deserve to be out of the 8 . Our depth players are not top 8 performers
We need new Blood to flow in our legendary Jersey next season

I wonder if mathematically Manly can still make the 8. We'd need 2 + 2 to equal 6, but the NRL change the rules at the drop of a hat why shouldn't we change a universal law

Been a difficult year but I’m sure we’ll be back fitter, stronger & healthier in 2021......to all our players finish the season strongly, enjoy the break & come back new boys. All Silvertails have stuck firm no matter the outcome & I’m sure we all will again! Proud of you no matter what!

Agree - looking forward to Turbo playing with the new back line. Kinda hope Garrick doesn't return so that Hoppa, Harper & Funa all remain in the team for these last games.
It remains to be seen if those hopefuls can compete against quality opposition
We dont want to be a one man team

We are neither a weather event, a strain of vermin or a bird who is overly noisy at dawn.

Else I would say there is a chance of a rule-change or convenient salary cap breach.

I think they have the potential to do this. For me, the most encouraging aspect of the win against the lowly Dogs was good completion rates and ball movement. It actually looked like we had an attack! This is something to build on for games against better teams. Both the Titans & Warriors have been playing well lately, so it will be a good test for the team.

To me wooden spooners are no benchmarks
You need players that have the ability to compete against the best

@BOZO, I think you may be missing my point - sometimes it is easier to tune up attacking deficiencies against lesser teams than against better teams. It gives the team (hopefully, not false) confidence to move forward. IMO, the team has been playing poorly all year & barely worth watching - except for a few games. The new blood has given me hope for the future & maybe will also gradually modify Des's coaching style. Last year, Des did very well with a somewhat pedestrian playing group. This year, he has been trying to coach in the same way, minus our most creative players Fainu, Turbo & Walker & it hasn't worked. If the new young players fulfill their attacking potential, then the Sea Eagles have every chance of soaring in 2021!

I understand and agree to what you are saying . All I am saying is that I would love to see all those players prove themselves against the best because if we need to win a title we need to be able to compete against the best . The bar should be set high .

Agree Bozo, but we also need to account for the adjustment to the strategy in light of the late rule-change that has drastically altered the game - the 6-again.

Des not adjusting to this within the year had me worried - but can maybe be somewhat explained by our selection inconsistency. If we come out next year without a change to our strategy and are the most pinged team with 6-again in 2021 (which I believe we were in 2020....might be wrong...), then I will be a lot more concerned about the wizardry of Des than I have ever been.

The bar is set high - success has just changed angle a bit, and we need to work out a new approach to adjust to it before the rest of the competition does. That means identifying the blueprint of a player that thrives under these new rules, and then targeting them in the market on 2-3 year deals at unders, before the other clubs catch-on and do the same.

Agree that Dogs are hardly a yardstick - a better indicator was an almost full-strength Tigers outfit that pipped us last week. We had a lot of youth who hopefully learn from that.

The type of player we need has changed though - and this year (outside of injuries) I think we are seeing which players have the tool-kit for the modern 2020+ game.

Sadly some fan-favourites or over-achievers from last year are proving inadequate now, or have not adjusted. Can they adjust? An off-season may tell...
  • Jorge is too slow, ineffective on Attacking/defensive kicks (love the guy)
  • Garrick is a ragdoll and his kicking and finishing went backwards this year (thought he was a breakout last year, shame)
  • Parker is too slow, and was caught out in some defensive nightmares this year (most improved 2019, but seems he has a low ceiling)
  • Bench selections were questionable at best, especially in that critical period we dropped out of contention (Croker/Waddell mainstays on bench, when we could have had Schuster/Guacomole - hindsight hell of a thing tho..)
