Manly will gratefully accept a two-week ban for centre Steve Matai, knowing the serial offender was lucky not to receive a harsher penalty for his high shot on Penrith forward Danny Galea.
Matai will miss matches against St George Illawarra and Melbourne after the Sea Eagles pleaded guilty to his grade four careless high tackle charge on Tuesday.
He was facing a three-week suspension if the Sea Eagles had decided to fight the charge at the judiciary and lost.
The club initially feared the Kiwi international could miss between four and six weeks given the severity of the tackle and Matai's poor judiciary record.
Galea was knocked out instantly after being caught flush across the face and had to be escorted from the field by two trainers.
Matai's suspension continues a frustrating run for the premiers, who have been unable to field a full-strength side for most of the season.
Kieran Foran, Glenn Stewart, Brett Stewart, David Williams and Tony Williams have all spent extended periods on the sideline, while Origin commitments have also cut deep.
