I'd say there's a pretty strong correlation in the data between Taupau running over 160m and Manly winning (9/10 games) as opposed to Taupau running under 160m and Manly winning (2/9 games). We lost 2/3 games without him in the side

Are we too reliant on him having a barnstorming game to make metres up the middle and control the game?

Jake and Marty have carried our forward pack this year. I think we can afford to carry one 70-80 metre backrower but not 2.

Lets hope we sign a good 2nd rower.
Jamil Hopoate has killed it in nsw cup and averaged 150 metres a game. Think he would have been worth a try.

Hoppa is a great footballer with plenty of skill (good enough to play 7 at one stage in NSW Cup this year). He is eligible to play NRL but the club are not yet satisfied with his conduct and are unwilling to consider him for first grade just yet.

I think this just shows how we lack another solid prop, as we certainly are reliant on Taupau. I'd definately bring in either Tanginoa or Paseka off the bench, they'd bring power and something a little different in attack. Tanginoa is very versatile and has footwork before the line, making him enter spaces. So if we could get him into offloading the ball I reckon we'd start to play off the back of that (as Taupau's offloads would be missed with Taupau on bench). In defence, from what I saw, he hit hard and just got the job done. I haven't seen much of Paseka although his size alone could be a good enough reason to bring him into the side

Where did you hear this? My understanding is that he still has yet to be cleared by the NRL.

Re Taupau, don't underestimate the effect of Jorge and his eagerness for carries plus his effectiveness in creating early momentum in our sets for the rest of the forward pack to work off.

totalfootystats (2017)
Taufua 13 games 17 hit ups per game for 163.3 run meters pg
Wright 12 games 14 hit ups per game for 138 run meters pg

How many games did Wright play fullback?

Your right. We have a few players that carry the whole team around and the others are passengers .
You cant be a semi finals contender with passengers in your team .
