Marty lolol

Not sure Beetson would be super fast in todays game, but a freakish player and all time great....the front row forward we just purchased form Brisbane, will match outside backs for speed - now that's fast !
And let me add, Beetson was not quite built like that orange dude in the photo neither....we don't need Kapow breaking sprint records, just using his combined power and speed he has to trample opposition players.

Skill and speed will always trump size. If a team of Turbos played a team of Paulos it wouldn't be a competition.
It's proven 100%....look at the list of ALL the BEst players to lace a boot....
Bozo, Lockyer, Johns, thurston, Sterling, Langlands.....all 5'8 - 5'10 and not in the heavyweight division.
There is a place for the Monsters too though and I feel the big boppers like Kapow when rampaging through opposition and breaking them physically and mentally is a HUGE part of the above mentioned "best Ever types" and in every team they were in if you looked at their packs up front, would be some absolute Beasts of men who would scare Freddy Kruger !!

I never saw Beetson play live but did see him playing on TV a number of times, and I did see him in person once when he was working on a building site. He was a very big powerful man with natural strength, bulging biceps, wide hips and a bit of extra pudding around the middle which gave him a very low centre of gravity.
I've mentioned before that Latrell Mitchell reminds me a bit of Beetson, physique and skill wise. I never saw him back then but apparently Beetson also began his first grade career as a centre, although unlikely he was ever as fast as Mitchell.
A couple of other genuine giants from back in the day were Herman Hamilton and Lurch O'Neil. Their motors and aggression and toughness were what made them so good, not just their size, and that still holds good today in the world of rugby league.

Start talking about Marty and the whispers about him being poached by Super League starts up....even the Pommy media must be reading up on Silvertails !! :wasntme:
Once players get to 31 and over, it's open season for speculation and rumours.
