Game Day: Manly vs Storm [Round 1, 2020]

Good defensive effort overall, but man, we were terrible with the ball in the second half and gave the game to the Storm on a platter. Did we complete a set of six in the second 40?

Manly played really well most of that game.

WTF have you got the virus already? Storm are a shadow of what they used to be and we are on the climb (so we are told) and they owned us on our own turf. In the car on the way home not happy with the performance at all. Maybe the 3 hour drive home has something to do with it but I expected more.

Played well but outplayed by a very prepared Storm.
Can’t understand our trial strategy. Many very underdone.
Really missed Api/Fainu - so much creativity gone. That meant Walker needed to step up but still think he’s not a 5/8. Put Schuster in. Won’t let us down. Walker back to centres. Suli to wing to replace (hate to say it) Jorge.

Fainu is such a big loss.. iv been watching last seasons games and he is an offloading machine and a tackle busting machine. He is so elusive and slick.. now we lose all that. So unlucky letting api go then losing fainu to stupidity. Fml that game was average. Dce was terrible! Levi did good for his 1st game, his attempted try early in the 1st pissed me off he killed the momentum and our set ended poorly.

Fainu is a huge loss! He asks so many questions with the ball. The defence just stand off him like he has spiders on him. I thought Levi was good, if we had Fainu coming on again like last year would of changed the game. He adds such an X factor

I thought Manly's defence was great. A fair bit of luck in all of their tries. Not the best kicking game from Cherry but I'm confident he'll be down on that performance and strike back.
Pity the boys couldn't land a try. The team certainly needs to work on last tackle options and backing each other up in attack.
Plenty of things to like about the way they played today, particularly in defence.
I can't wait for Smith to retire. He's so smug.
Go Manly! First win of 2020 not too far away.

Fainu is a huge loss! He asks so many questions with the ball. The defence just stand off him like he has spiders on him. I thought Levi was good, if we had Fainu coming on again like last year would of changed the game. He adds such an X factor

Levi went ok today just hope he settles more into our game
Sometimes when a player doesn’t goes well at one club get excell at another club hopefully Levi is this guy

Surprisingly I'm pretty happy with our showing. Levi was direct and confident, but needs match fitness. Our energy died 60minutes in with fitness issues. Attack was disjointed (But ok in the first half) but defence was terrific.

Once our attack get started in 2020 (hopefully season isn't suspended), strong attack coupled with that defence will make us a strong premiership threat.

Bench was reasonable but could've be been a bit sterner in stopping storm forwards making metres. Croker had a shocker, but if Levi can't play 80 yet then bring Croker on much earlier so less pressure is on him to win games.

My only significant issue is kick defence. It was great in the first half but totally fell apart late (costing the game).

I thought Levi was really good. Ideal replacement for API, very similar players. It was Faniu we missed. If API played would of been same result. API really isn't that creative, tackles well. Levi did a lot of defence and passing was crisp, just doesn't have the creative instincts like Faniu. I think Levi and Faniu would be a great combo.

Play the ball is a lot faster.

10 metres seems more than the 6m in the Manly match.

Croker /Levi not even in same postcode as Fainu/API That’s our biggest issue. Defending and passing just does not cut it against the top sides. The other boys can mix it with the best and proved it all last year. I have every confidence we’ll go really well if we can get something out of dummy half somehow.

They were all simply great kicks plus the lead up to second try was all luck. We play compressed defence. It has its advantages but well placed kicks can find it out.I don’t think it’s a huge issue.Hughes was good all game.
