Reckon we lucky Benji is a bigger idiot coach than Seibold putting API in the halves instead of Douhei

Sorry but nothing beats playing Tommy Talau at halfback, which is what Seibold did against Souths last year instead of playing Humphreys who at 5/8 carved up the Bunnies NSW Cup side on the same day their first grade side held us to 0.....

And even worse was having Tommy act as chief playmaker and having the far more experienced Brooks just sitting out on the left all night putting up ineffective bombs. Although truth be told I don't put all the blame on Seibold there. For mine as the far more experienced half, Brooks should have taken the initiative and taken control of the team, even if that side of playing in the halves isn't his natural game. As said, he was be far the more experienced half. He should have stood up.

That's the one thing I don't like about Luke Brooks and Brandy actually said it right tonight. He seems to only play well when DCE does. He goes into his shell when we're losing.

Team Victory Song:

We are the Manly boys,
We had a win today,
We are the boys you know of
We showed them how to play,
No matter where we’ll be
Maroon and White you'll see,
Oh aren’t we a wonderful credit
To our locality,
So cheer boys cheer,
We are together,
Every now and then we have a win…..have a win
We will play them all around
At our home or any ground,
If they’ll always play a fair and honest game
So it’s GUZZLE GUZZLE GUZZLE
As we pour it down our muzzle,
And sing out the order loud and clear, 'MORE BEER',
And we will drink all night
Until we are very tired
In the shade of the Manly Leagues Club.

One of the few games I’ve missed live at Brooky in recent years but not surprised to hear the crowd seemed a bit flat, this is one of the most uninspiring Manly teams I can remember and that first half was true punish to watch. The captain doesn’t want to be here and isn’t a particularly likeable bloke, Lodge is a hard one to get behind too and was whinging about his contract situation in the off season (could get more $$$ if he played like he did in the opening stint last night more than twice a year). Waddell is up there with the worst players I’ve ever seen and is our only backup 2nd rower. We all love Tom & Jake but it’s tough watching them get by these days. Throw in having Seibold as coach and even a win, albeit against the side with the last 3 spoons and possibly a 4th on the way, can feel a bit unfulfilling.

I do get enjoyment from watching guys like Haumole (was missed last night and will be even more so when we play better sides coming up), Lehi & Koula. Not Lehi’s best night but he’ll bounce back and Koula is a freak, been great to watch him elevate his game this year though I get this sinking feeling he may end up elsewhere eventually. Still, brighter times on the horizon with Fogarty & potentially TDS on the way amongst hopefully a few signings in the forwards, but this year hasn’t been doing much for me, and yet somehow we are currently in the 8!

Remember their young pack was going to tear us a new one Mark. Was the noise all week. Ffs this place is clueless at times. Dad’s army had no problem with them. Their pack could barely get 30 metres each set! They have been in games the tigers, but only because they infringe and spoil every tackle.
Yep that was my view too , proved me wrong

On current form I can't see us beating south's/ storm/ Bulldogs/ roosters
Agree. If we’re realistic about those teams, right now we’re next to no chance of beating them - maybe a very slight chance against Souths if they’re missing latrel. We might somehow jag one of those games but it will be way against the odds. Either way, I think this very average win papers over the ever widening cracks unfortunately.

Go figure, Garrick had a good night on the wing scoring a try, kicking 4 goals, passing 1300 FG points and being only 1 metre off of the most run metres for the night (he had 172. Young GrassHoppa had 173). Not a bad centre, but a better winger.

Our back row was rocks and diamonds, on both sides of the field. Burbo actually got tonight's most NRL Fantasy points from Manly with 62 (Terrell May had 75 for the Tigpies). To add to his try he made 36 tackles without missing one or making an ineffective one. But he also made 2 errors and gave away a penalty. Duck missed 4 tackles (TKO was the worst offender with 5) to go along with his try, which I'll give him his dues was a good try.

Jake 2 playing at dummy half, Jazz at lock and Jake 1 at prop works, or would if Jurbo could ever start making run metres on a consistent basis. Only 37 running metres tonight (7 post contact.....) from 6 runs. And we need him to make metres, especially when our front row stocks are dropping like flies in an old Ross Higgins Pea-Beu ad. Not surprisingly though Jurbo again led us with tackles made, making 45 with only 1 miss and 2 ineffective.

I'm not 100% sold on Lehi to fullback and Tom to centre. Young GrassHoppa still has some rookie type errors in his game while Turbo is not a good defensive centre (Hint: he wasn't a good defensive centre in Origin either. Like Hammer and Latrell in the three-quarters, he mostly got by on being brilliant in attack).

As we know, Saab and Koula with their speed are weapons (especially when Saab actually holds on to the ball :lipssealed: ). We just need to learn how to unleash them into open space. That we were only able to really do that once tonight (Saab's try) against a 💩 team like the Tigers doesn't say much for our attack. Saab is easier as he's on the wing, but tonight was an example of wasting Koula's talent. Sure he ran for 127 metres, which is good, but from 13 runs at less than 10 metres per time (9.7) is a waste. Honestly, its why I'd actually have him on the wing.

TBH I'm not sure tonight's win went any way to saving Seibold. It was a putrid game all round really and as someone said in the game day thread, it was like watching the Northern Eagles all over again. The truth is that (especially in the 2nd half) we just played less 💩 than the Tigers did. Most other NRL teams would have carved us up like a Gordon Ramsay roast dinner.

So to end this short story turned into War and Peace ... we can beat Souths next week. But even against them without Latrell we're going to have to play a lot better than we did tonight.
Good wrap. Unfortunately Burbo went back to running sideways instead of direct a bit last night. He needs to focus on hole running. He's much for effective doing that. But I like his attitude in defence. I could feel some of the contact he was making last night 👍. And I gotta say, if I saw one more drop back inside ball from the halves last night, I was gunna lose it.
Can we not get something new!!??

So back from my first game live in over 2 years.

Very special win for me and after full time eagle rock had way more significance than a normal win.

My review of it live

Boy we looked flat and very side to side play our side had no real agression compared to other manly teams over the years.

Any good side would of smashed us tonight every chance the tigers got in the second half we folded.

We looked so disinterested at times and one of the flattest crowds every no real atmosphere at all.

Turbo sadly was so badly cooked tonight there were times when the normal turbo would of burst through but was so hesitant in his play, he best days are well behind him.

Crowd 17,000 good turn out, the ground looked so good best I have seen it in years.

Still from I what I saw we have fallen away badly and that scoreline flattered us. We are no where near a top 8 side and we are in for some long years unless change happens.

Loved being back seeing us live and to get the win I will take it but tigers should of been beat by 50 tonight they were terrible.

We won't get the spoon but that's about it.

South's will destroy us next week if we play that badly next week in the forwards.

Manly forever and eagle rock
Special night!!!

Agree the crowd was very flat in the first half due to manly’s horrible uninspiring play. But things livened up in the second half. Certainly not the best atmosphere ever but credit to the locals who keep turning up in numbers despite the state of the team. I was very surprised at the size of the crowd.

Did enough right to win and considering all of the negativity surrounding the team leading up to the night , not that bad an outcome .
Defence largely held together with quite good line speed , maybe the Tigers were more on the predictable side and attack a bit off but still some encouraging signs taking into account the fairly tough draw ahead .
Brooks much better , Turbo in an adjustment phase but should be able to show more in his new role
Lodge 's effort more then passable , no doubt have more of a make shift pack at present but again in the circumstances , did n 't do so bad .
D C E a mixed bag and will have to show a bit more ongoing to help with some still needed overall team improvement .
Sure that Lehi can step up his game and while good to try and stabilize some middle attack , no question the Manly attack goes so much better with those more precision sweep plays .
Part confidence , part better execution but mainly just getting the attacking plays co ordinated better to take advantage of the speed factor out wider .
Naturally tough draw again approaching and very dour first half but did help with enough brighter signs to hopefully instill some more positive self belief that there is still a competitive unit there somewhere

Let’s be honest, for the first 39 minutes we were watching 2 reserve grade standard teams, especially after the Bulldogs Penrith match the previous night.
If Bula and Luai weren’t out for Tigers, it was unlikely we would have lead at half time.
I think Souths next week with no Latrell is the only game we are likely to win till the end of the season.
We are so far off the pace with this squad, and don’t see much changing for 2026 if Seibold is still the coach.

The first half was hard to watch for sure, I was on edge the whole half, expecting Wests to bust through & score after all our possession in their half.

I was pleasantly surprised by Waddell’s effort, I thought he had a good game - apart from the shove in API’s back that denied us that try. He scored a nice try too.

I thought Burbo had a good game too, solid in defence & a battering ram in attack, & also showed good hands & agility in scoring his try.

Turbo seemed throttled at centre, I could feel his frustration through the screen, but when he started roaming in the second half he started opening the Tigers defence up a bit.

Simpkin’s defence was good, he put on some big hits from dummy half & I thought his service was spot on.

Brooks had one of his better games too.
