Hate to say this but I suspected this would happen, and I've suspected it would in three of the four previous games, The Parramatta game surprised me. But look I am no expert, but if I could see this coming, why didn't Des and why hasn't he done something effective about that backline. Fair dinkum I have the greatest respect for what Des did for Manly between 2004-11 and that he led Manly out of the mire last year. But I get a sense that he is running scared about retaining his reputation and is playing it super conservative. This was not the Des of those earlier years. Its like the reputation he rightly earned, is weighing too heavy on his shoulders and he's playing safe, hoping to hold on to the kudos.
Again I'm no expert, but I think we can all see something is wrong. To rely so heavily on one player is just going no where. He has a couple of players sitting idly on the sidelines who just may help to turn things around. Maybe they wont, but its worth the risk with Manly's slide. Saying I'm not going to rush them speaks of fear to me. They are ready. Play them for goodness sake, otherwise this season will be compared to Barrett's last effort.
