From the 'NRL 2025, Injuries, Suspension Return Dates, Casualty Ward and Key Information for the 2025 NRL Telstra Premiership Season' web page, Here is the Latest NRL Injured or Unavailable Update:

* * * (Updated: Tuesday, 29 July 2025) * * *

Manly forward Haumole Olakau'atu has been ruled out of Tonga's Pacific Championships campaign against Samoa and New Zealand after requiring season-ending shoulder surgery.

Olakau’atu will not play again this season after dislocating his right shoulder in Sunday’s Round 21 loss to the Bulldogs at Allianz Stadium.

The Tongan international dislocated the same shoulder against the Titans in Round 15 and was making his NRL return against the Bulldogs, after six weeks of rehabilitation.

However, he lasted just 43 minutes before re-injuring the joint in his side's loss to the Bulldogs.

The Sea Eagles announced on Monday that
Olakau’atu would undergo surgery in the next couple of weeks and should be ready to return to full contact in January.

Olakau'atu's injury happened on almost the same patch of grass at Allianz Stadium that Melbourne halfback Jahrome Hughes dislocated his shoulder on Thursday night.

Manly Sea Eagles
  • Jake Simpkin (Concussion, Round 22)
  • Lachlan Croker (Concussion, TBC)
  • Josh Aloiai (Shoulder, TBC)
  • Taniela Paseka (Achilles, Round 26)
  • Nathan Brown(Biceps, Finals)
  • Haumole Olakau'atu (Shoulder, 2026)

Also, from the Official NRL Casualty Ward & Injury Information, Manly hub page, there are slight variations to the information regarding the unavailable or injured players and their return periods:
  • Lachlan Croker (Concussion, Round 22)
  • Jake Simpkin (Concussion, Round 22)
  • Taniela Paseka (Achilles, Round 26)
  • Josh Aloiai (Shoulder, TBC)
  • Haumole Olakau'atu (Shoulder, TBC)
  • Nathan Brown(Biceps, Finals)

Simpkin to return in place of Gordie? (No sign of poor old Crokes?)
Waddell I assume will resume in Haumole's spot
So a new bench player ... Talau .. Navale? Give Navale a go!

Thought that Manly needed 2 wins from the 4 projected [ and consecutive ] tough games starting with the Storm to be a decent shot of making the 8
Think that it is still the case and to then get at least 2 wins from ? is it Dragons , Tigges , Phins and Warriors . that seems more then getable .
32 points should do it but as others have cited , F and A took a bit of a hammering yesterday
Then the understandable view that after yesterdays poor outcome , Manly does not deserve to be there and any repetition of that performance level , could well be a valid point
Hopefully they have it in them , even if a bit still depleted and shell shocked right now to turn things around big time against the Roosters who on their day are or can be right up there unfortunately

Just as much as I didn’t think we’d be UP for yesterdays game , I thought we’d be very UP for this game, and now I’m even more convinced of that.

Just imagine how embarrassed they’d feel after yesterday so they’ll want to rectify this, at home , in front of the faithful.

I doubt we can say “ specials “ but even with no Ola I reckon we are a HUGE chance v the Rorters.

I'd agree if it was a close loss yesterday but after that hammering and losing Haumole I reckon it's curtains now. The $CE will be in full self preservation mode for his new masters now. Zero leadership expected.

Yes that’s a reasonable view as well , that might be it for 25 , lose every game.

If that happens I’ll be taking a holiday from Silvertails until next year as there will be nothing than heated arguments and negativity.

I’m still positive , I never thought we’d finish top 8 anyway so all I’m looking for from here is some heart.

Talau in for Saab.. Simpkin back for Gordy..
Waddell in for Haumole.. Navale in for Toff.. and I’m undecided on who comes on the bench in place of Waddell do we give Pua'avase a run or blood Hart (although I wouldn’t still tad young) or do we go with Chee Kam or Schoupp?

We were weak in the pack from the beginning, and now have 5 first choice forwards gone for the year. Certainly doesn't help, but that is not the core problem with this team.
As said by many "who knows what they will dish up" from game to game and half to half.
The responsibility for that comes down to every player, not just the coach - but a lot of it must fall on the coaching staff. They have simply failed to instil the mentality they like to make videos about.
As for this week, your guess is as good as theirs.

The team will remain unchanged outside of any un-availabilities due to injury.

It's a funny game because we're still amongst it for a top 8 spot, and the Roosters are one of our competitors in this regard so beating them would definitely go a long way to securing that.

It's obvious something is not working though, our backline on paper compared to the preseason is a mess. So either it's time Saab gets the ass and we continue shuffling the deck chairs with hopes of unlocking some points, maybe we put Turbo on the wing this time? Cause we sure as **** ain't keeping anyone out for the full 80.

Manly 13+.

Shouldn't discount the effect on the other players seeing Haumole go down straight after half time. In hindsight almost reminiscent of Manly losing their talisman Snake back in the 07 GF... fighting hard and in the game one minute, blown away the next.

😱😱😱

Betting dce repays uncle Nick and is even more quiet than usual, though he should want to show their halves up if he wants a starting spot next year but he doesn't have that kind of fire.

Hard to get up psychologically after getting embarrassed in the 2nd half by the Dogs. The Roosters pack looked very physical last week and I am concerned it may be a similar result for us.
