Some are talking money trails here, TBH it's doubtful there'd be one for such a small amount, it would all be cash, which the people in question would easily blow on bets , fancy dinners, alcohol, drugs.
50k spending can be traced, as your normal spending pattern will be disrupted by suddenly having zero activity on your normal accounts.

Don't think that the cash economy is invisible to those that want to know
They just want to get the big wigs first to slow down the spread of the problem @

Footy Players are not known for planning ahead :p

I remember your post mate, and I didn't ridicule you, it seemed very strange at the time.

A year ago I wrote about some Manly players that were partying hard in an Albury hotel after the loss to Canberra , I was a new member and got called a liar and a troll by a staff member on here .
I said back then that something rotten was happening to my beloved club and look where we are now !
There was a cancer at manly last year - something none of us could really put our fingers on . Would it surprise me that match fixing was part of it .. Well No it wouldn't

I can see you are certainly no Troll.

Funny how things usually come around again on the merry go round isn't it?

Nor for being too smart.

If I was given a bunch of cash Id just dribble it in.

There are ways of course , 10% for the bookmaker to write you a winning ticket for $50k, and there's your paper record ( happens all the time I hear).

Hi all,

I have deleted the post regarding match fixing. This has been done specifically due to a request from the club.
There were too many people mentioning names within the post and even though we continuously asked people to not do that and to remove any such posts, we continued to have people posting names. Unfortunately the moderation team do not have the personal time to continue to go through the thread removing all of the posts with names or allusions to names.

Whilst the discussion of such a topic is ok and acceptable on here, any mention of specific names will lead to a temporary ban for any user doing so.

Such things put not only yourselves but the entire site in danger, and I am sure that last thing you guys want is to have this site shut down or for any of us to be shouldering any legal burden.

So discuss, but please discuss within reason and without specific names or anything that would or could be associated with a name.

Additionally our Email relay Server has been down all day. I have only just addressed this within the last 30 minutes. So anyone who sent me emails in the last 24 or so hours, I will try to get back to ASAP

Dan

Please accept my apology in advance Dan. Our club however has a real problem with communication though. I have been a member for 8 years and since the Penn's and Joe Kelly have arrived, they have shown a contempt toward us members. They fail to respond to members correspondence and use cheap tactics like the above toward Dan. I happen to be an AFL club member too, and they are the complete opposite to the Sea Eagles administration. I am going to go out on a limb and say this; I suspect that Kelly and Penn know who the culprits are. Nefarious gambler and not terribly honourable men.

I gamble reasonably heavily on horseracing. I have met Heyson. One of our ex players who associates heavily with him lost 75k on a midweek night a couple of weeks ago. Same player was universally ridiculed on here for not having a go for 18 months despite being offered a million dollars a year to play Rugby League. A club legend who we all dearly loved was sacked partly as a result of this. I am not saying Geoff was a great coach but he deserved better.

My opinion, and it is only an opinion as I have no idea what transpired, is I don't need a court to work out for me that Manly has changed. And I don't need a court to tell me that the fabric of our team morale has changed.Whether this betting stuff is true or not I am totally sick of certain inmates who ran and are running the asylum.

There has been something wrong at our club for 2 years. We are in transition and we will rise again. We always do. But this cancer needs to be dealt with.

There's a bit of a difference between their small amount and my small amount. I bags theirs!

Mate $50k ( and that's another story) to someone earning a million a year is peanuts.

The other story is , would you possibly sacrifice your whole career, and your life forever known as a cheater, for an amount as small as $50k???

The older this story gets , the more unbelievable it becomes.

Match fixing: NRL can't take money from gambling entities and be stunned at fixing
Date June 3, 2016 - 12:44PM
Peter FitzSimons

The weirdest thing? Despite the extremely grave nature of the allegations against the Sea Eagles throwing two matches of the NRL last years, there is so little outrage from the punters, on talk-back, on twitter, in letters.

Yes, we in the media are all over it, as is the NRL, but where are the poor bastards who lose the rent money every weekend rising up in BLIND FURY at the very idea that six players might have lined their own pockets for an alleged $50K a pop, at their expense

So many people, see, don't seem to make the connection. It is viewed as a rort to do the bookies down – not good, but not outrageous. "They're bookies. They can afford it."

And yet, where do the bookies get that money from, you mugs? Of course every red cent of it comes from the punter who put their hard-earned on the other team, on what they think is a two-horse race, not knowing that the fix is in and that one horse ain't trying. The NRL is quite right to ban for life any player proven to have been involved.

But, as to the NRL, perhaps they could spare us the hand-wringing and the stunned expressions of whoever thought this might happen? Let's start with me.

It was always going to happen, just as it always has around the world when sport and gambling get in bed together.

And as TFF has long banged on about, the NRL can't have it both ways. They can't take in money hand over fist from every gambling entity going – the NSW Origin team on Wednesday night was sponsored by Star casino – plaster the broadcasts with gambling ads and then claim to be stunned at the cancer of corruption arising in fixed game results.

As I have said many times, taking the gambling money, is like sucking on Marlboros. It's fabulous! But the more you do it, the more you cough, and the more likely you are to get a tumour in your lungs. Sooner or later, either you die a miserable death or those who've spent too long around you do. We are seeing it – ALLEGEDLY – before our very eyes.

Meantime, it is, of course, not just the two Manly matches under renewed scrutiny, and one or two players involved in that 2009 match between the Roosters and the Cowboys may well be shifting uncomfortably.

Huge money was on the Cowboys to win by 13 points or more. The Roosters were ahead 16-0 at half-time, only to lose by – wouldn't you know it?? - 32-16!

The Herald reported at the time that the team broke down entirely because of it, with fingers pointed, and allegations made that the players concerned were, among other things, getting free services at a particular brothel ...

Stand by for more on that game to come out this week.

Mark It doesn't work that way on the punt. A million a year is nothing if you have a habit. Size of income simply mirrors the size of the bet if you have a major problem. An ex player lost 75k on the Tuesday night puppies. You reckon there will be much left of the million.

Match fixing is usually the result of the gambler getting in too deep on the punt and the only way out is to do something illegal to get out of the hole. That"'s how these guys operate. Find a weak character and back him into a corner. As Bob Dylan says its been happening in the gambling game for centuries. Young footballers with plenty who like to put colourful characters on a pedestal are just grist for the mill. Like taking candy from a baby.

You don't hang round with these guys to play scrabble. You hang round because you love the ride.....and it never ends well.

Have I just revealed to all on ST that I am not on $1 million?
Dang!
And in response to your observation about why they'd they'd throw it all away for so little, I can think of a few things.
* intelligence may not match income
* a severe gambling problem where they're chasing their losses and hence are in debt to some serious heavies.
* a belief that crims are the cool kids and they want to be associated with them.
* chasing the thrill because money and football victories no longer do it for them.
That's my Certified Amatuer Psychologist theory @

Ahh, you are a rational man Mark.:nerd:

But the Players are so used to being feted and believe what the money men tell them. Which is that it's all cool or whatever the latest term is for getting one over the system.

Bigger careers have been blow for smaller amounts by men, and a few women - Martha Stewart. @

Id like to see Manly on the charm offensive, waking down the beaches handing out footies and scarves or whatever merch to peninsular faithful. Going to schools, hospitals etc. You know, build brand loyalty stuff.

To be fair my sons school (in the area) received a discount ticket offer etc for the Panthers game

I read that we've passed 13,000 members for this first time in our history.
That's a great result, if the figures are accurate, considering the turbulence of the past two seasons.
Imagine the membership numbers if we were winning matches and playing attractive football.

I definitely want to say that I don't think this whole match fixing thing is true at all. I can't fathom anyone in the Manly club being that stupid, and to think they would throw that critical Parra game coming off the excitement of four wins and unexpected top 8 contention for 50K?. C'mon.

Its good to hear the strong language coming out of the club refuting the claims, and I hope this can serve to light a fire under the arses of these players and they go and smash Canberra.

I've had enough of these targeted campaigns against Manly. It's jealousy and the best way Manly can stick it to them is win tonight.

The only conspiracy is the NRL.
