Not that it means anything guys, but I took the time to write Todd Greenburg on the matter:
To The Administration of the NRL & Todd Greenburg,
I write to you, concerning the NRL's procrastination around the decision making process, regarding the allowances available to Steve Matai, and The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles similar to that afforded by The NRL to Anthony Watmough, and the Parramatta Eels.
Whilst this submission / request by individual & club may be monetarily based, what The NRL obviously isn't considering in its tardiness, is the affinity said player had with the clubs very passionate fans, family members, key stake holders, and their want to farewell these club legends in a timely & appropriate manner (Brett Stewart included), befitting their status in the game & for the club / members.
I therefore implore Todd Greenburg to step up as a leader in the game, offer the same dispensation afforded the Parramatta Eels & allow the fans their God given right to send off these diamonds of the game , without the negative shawl of yet another hard edged anti Northern Beaches Greenburg decision making process darkening the experience.
As can be seen statistically, goodwill & NRL crowds are diminishing, attributed in part to affinity with players, clubs & fans widening. 100,975 fans attended games round one, some 13.8% down on the previous year, and the lowest since 1996, when only 30,198 watched just the four games played.
Todd, please have a sense of honor in your decision making process. Understand the implications. Let fans be fans, and send off two true club legends the right way.
Please don't provide me with a vanilla, stapled response from a fellow staffer. I'd love to hear your insight into your resolution & decision making process, and if you don't mind, that will be published publicly.
Looking forward to your reply.
Kind Regards,
Ryan Winter
