Manly bench 2018

Any team who want success in the modern game need punch off the bench.
It’s still debatable who will be in th 14-17 through the season, but appears obvious Lane, Tanginoa, JetSki, Frank, Fainu will be likely candidates with Lussick back soon and Perritt, Paseka and Sipley not far off.
It seems Brown has dropped in the pecking order which imo, indicates the team is somewhat strengthened in the middle, which is good.
Who do you think will cement that bench at full strength if the starting pack is-
10 - AFB
9 - API
10 - Kapow
11 - Sirro
12 - Thompson
13 - Jake
14 - ?
15 - ?
16 - ?
17 - ?

Assuming AFB is starting (I think he’s better off the bench), Perret is the first chosen for the bench this season for mine. There was a few games last year, especially towards the end of the season where he really made an impact and at the very least he’s reliable and has a great body type for a prop.

Winterstein is good enough for a bench spot. Then one of the new Young props or Darcy and a utility player.

I know he's only young but I'd like to see Fainu get a run. Wonder if he could fill a utility role on the bench?

I think we need cover for hooker if Api goes down. Unfortunately Brown covers that in his numerous roles. I don't know who else provides that ?? Hastings is only other option with multiple utility value - hooker, halves, fullback. I can't see Tuberculosis using Fainu off the bench at this point in his young career - Api is an 80 minute player. So personally I think Brown will be there as much as it pains me to say.

The rest of the bench make up will be 3 forwards clearly, and most likely middle forwards as both edges will play 80 minutes you would think. Tanginoa and Perrett for mine and then maybe a backrower to cover Thommo and Sirro but who can also play middle 3rd. Frankenstein, Lane or Jetski - see who shines in trials

That's the wonderful thing this year Ryan .... there are probably 4/5 different bench combinations that I would be hard pressed to argue against ...

If you replaced any one or two of yours with say Kelepi, Frank, GojetSki, Sipley, Fainu, Brown or Hastings I wouldn't be devastated .....

I believe the bench may change often .... A good position to be in ..... a couple of the lads will step up ...

If you replaced any one or two of yours with say Kelepi, Frank, GojetSki, Sipley, Fainu, Brown or Hastings I wouldn't be devastated .....

Absolutely mate. Last season, the team almost picked itself. This year I was thinking, Jeez, be rough if Winterstein misses out. Tanginoa, Sipley would also be great, maybe in for Perrett.

Depth and competition for spots is a wonderful thing.

I also still have faith (even if we don't nab Carney) that Croker can do a top job given what I saw out of that Melbourne Storm half.

Absolutely counting the days down until Darcy and Dylan return though.

I'd give Croker first opportunity at 5/8 if we get Carney, and have Carney on the bench. I want to see if the kid has the goods. Nice to have Carney though as backup.

Obviously our starting forward pack will be (taking into account Lussick is injured):-
Taupau, Api, AFB, Siro, Thompson, Jake T
Res will be out of:
Hastings, Perrett, Tanginoa, Winterstein, Lane, Gosiewski, Sipley, Brown & possibly Carney? Any combination of these guys would be pretty good.

I don't see what Croker, or Carney for that matter, offer coming off the bench ?? Just a waste of a bench spot carrying a back up half who isn't going to play decent minutes - I don't see either of them playing dummy half. Just pick the best number 6 and use the last bench spot for a utility who can cover a couple of options.

Agree .... however, I am firmly in the camp of hoping we don't get Carney ..... but if we do, then I will just have to suck it up and keep my gob closed ......
